I don't think Carly is TGK or Fr. Hoopes. He seems to be a young convert who has some unusual interests. This isn't the first time I've interacted with him. I think sometimes he fails to understand while something may not be sinful, it doesn't necessarily mean one should have a strong interest in it like natural vs judicial astrology. It is one thing to understand the difference between the two things but in this crazy world we live in being able to find "legitimate outlets" is virtually impossible. Which is why people (including myself) seem to be flummoxed why he cares so much about it. Maybe he was bored one afternoon and he found it interesting.

Many on Cathinfo are older and are parents. I imagine no parents are interested in teaching their children the difference between astrological 'schools' and such. They have far more important things to teach their children. Catholicism\tradition covers so many topics. And astrology is not one of the overarching subjects discussed in tradition as far as I know. It seems relatively arcane. If I were a parent, I probably still wouldn't care to delve into this topic too much. It is much easier for me to give a cursory explanation on it and why it should be avoided.

I don't want to condemn him. But I do think he needs to realize that with tradition's long history with Pablo in Pffeiferville, and now with this Fr. Hoopes incident, people rightfully have their guard up. I first registered on here in 2017 and I hardly posted then. I did not post for many years after that because I didn't feel like I fit in or contribute much. Maybe Carly needs to take a step back and post less. Who knows.
Thank you laststand. I do think it's a generational thing, zoomers who grew up online are eclectic, I also know of or a little about Atomwaffen, MLP, Lain, Nettspend, Chief Keef, the Sharty, Goatis, Hyperborea, Old Calendarists, Sufis, Chris Chan, etc.
That doesn't make me a bad Catholic it just means I belong to a certain generational milieu. Some people are really interested in trains or the history of Romania.

I know of astrology because of the Discarded Image as I said, though notice my first posts tried to get away from the subject in itself and more about what superstition actually is and the sacramental worldview. Maybe my bad habit is derailing threads I can fess up to that.

I also don't really condone that book per se, it's just I believe all truth is God's truth, so it might contain some truth. Nobody has told me what makes Williamson reading Ted K and Mein Kampf fine but this isn't.

However I think it does touch that important topic I brought up, most tradcath are entirely modern on their worldview, the astrology thing is a good example because notice their anxiety wasn't so much "you're going against human free will" it was the concept that planets could influence the world at all, since there's no known force outside of gravitation, or that mixtures of herbs couldn't possibly ward off demons, since they aren't one of the official sacramentals. Aside from it conjuring up in their mind spooky images of black witches with cauldrons What I'm saying is this is an entirely modern and novel worldview in the history of humanity, they've sanitized it but they would actually find the saints and the patriarchs and the way they saw and talked about nature and creation quite spooky and superstitious if they travelled back in time.

Is there anyone here who knows this priest well enough to provide evidence of his actions, rather than relying solely on a news article or internet hearsay?
It is a grave matter to publicly condemn a member of the clergy, and we must be reminded of the principles that govern our conduct as Catholics. The Church teaches that the reputation of one’s neighbor is a precious good, and this is especially true regarding those who hold the priestly office. To speak ill of a priest in public forums constitutes the sin of detraction if the information is revealed without a just cause, or calumny if the information is false or exaggerated.
I would not engage in such slandering for a Novus Ordo priest, nor for any lay person, let alone a traditional priest. We are bound by the law of charity toward all, regardless of their position or affiliation.
Even if a priest is found to be acting imprudently, the laity are not authorized to act as his judge or to publicly destroy his reputation. The Church is a hierarchical society, and the correction of the clergy belongs to their ecclesiastical superiors, not to the general public.
Furthermore, we must distinguish between the mere possession of an object and the commission of a sin. While the Church has long condemned the practice of astrology as a form of superstition that encroaches upon the sovereignty of God, assuming that the possession of a book equates to the practice of magic is a rash judgment.
To "disown" a priest or to treat his ministry as void because of personal suspicion is a grave error that harms the unity of the Church.
If there is a legitimate concern regarding the conduct of a priest, the proper course of action is not public denunciation, but private, fraternal correction. Let us be careful not to fall into the trap of public scandal, which serves only to weaken the faith of the simple and sow discord within the Mystical Body of Christ.
Before you say this, you should read through the whole news article, and all of the posts on here. This is a serious matter, and the public should know about this I would say. Also, it is indeed a sin to own a forbidden astrology book without a grave cause. LifeSite news is a credible source, and they are traditional Catholics, and there's a reason why they put this out in the public. Please consider this.
P.S. not to mention that TGK, who caused public scandal in this forum, is highly suspected to be Fr. Hoopes since someone said "I'm starting to think TGK might just be Fr. Hoopes himself" and he responded "You beat me to it...!" among other things.

You must be new here. ;)
She's not any more new here than you are. I think she made an important statement and everyone should read it. There's nothing wrong with warning against bad priests, but there has to be evidence, and we have to be careful to condemn the bad actions but not the man.

....no kidding. The fact that she's been around long enough to have had some experience with traddieland is what makes it a quip. Apparently that was lost on you and you thought I was making a criticism?

Yeah, I agree. That's why I gave her a thumbs up.

Simeon I think is a mom or a grandma, which takes a lot of skill and smarts, but she had a disagreement with me once on Neo-Aristotelianism vs. Neo-Platonism, so now she's convinced I'm a secret agent that's part of some Neo-Platonist occult mafia sent to lead the users of CathInfo astray.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Simeon is a celibate and a graduate of the big man's world, who knows a thing or two, given the professions she chose.

She is a silver fox now, and will die much sooner than you, if the actuarial tables prevail. But she's still sleek and ready for battle, and can still spot a popinjay a mile off.

Simeon is no chapel harpy. She's a metaphysical MMA.
