I don't think Carly is TGK or Fr. Hoopes. He seems to be a young convert who has some unusual interests. This isn't the first time I've interacted with him. I think sometimes he fails to understand while something may not be sinful, it doesn't necessarily mean one should have a strong interest in it like natural vs judicial astrology. It is one thing to understand the difference between the two things but in this crazy world we live in being able to find "legitimate outlets" is virtually impossible. Which is why people (including myself) seem to be flummoxed why he cares so much about it. Maybe he was bored one afternoon and he found it interesting.
Many on Cathinfo are older and are parents. I imagine no parents are interested in teaching their children the difference between astrological 'schools' and such. They have far more important things to teach their children. Catholicism\tradition covers so many topics. And astrology is not one of the overarching subjects discussed in tradition as far as I know. It seems relatively arcane. If I were a parent, I probably still wouldn't care to delve into this topic too much. It is much easier for me to give a cursory explanation on it and why it should be avoided.
I don't want to condemn him. But I do think he needs to realize that with tradition's long history with Pablo in Pffeiferville, and now with this Fr. Hoopes incident, people rightfully have their guard up. I first registered on here in 2017 and I hardly posted then. I did not post for many years after that because I didn't feel like I fit in or contribute much. Maybe Carly needs to take a step back and post less. Who knows.
Thank you laststand. I do think it's a generational thing, zoomers who grew up online are eclectic, I also know of or a little about Atomwaffen, MLP, Lain, Nettspend, Chief Keef, the Sharty, Goatis, Hyperborea, Old Calendarists, Sufis, Chris Chan, etc.
That doesn't make me a bad Catholic it just means I belong to a certain generational milieu. Some people are really interested in trains or the history of Romania.
I know of astrology because of the Discarded Image as I said, though notice my first posts tried to get away from the subject in itself and more about what superstition actually is and the sacramental worldview. Maybe my bad habit is derailing threads I can fess up to that.
I also don't really condone that book per se, it's just I believe all truth is God's truth, so it might contain some truth. Nobody has told me what makes Williamson reading Ted K and Mein Kampf fine but this isn't.
However I think it does touch that important topic I brought up, most tradcath are entirely modern on their worldview, the astrology thing is a good example because notice their anxiety wasn't so much "you're going against human free will" it was the concept that planets could influence the world at all, since there's no known force outside of gravitation, or that mixtures of herbs couldn't possibly ward off demons, since they aren't one of the official sacramentals. Aside from it conjuring up in their mind spooky images of black witches with cauldrons What I'm saying is this is an entirely modern and novel worldview in the history of humanity, they've sanitized it but they would actually find the saints and the patriarchs and the way they saw and talked about nature and creation quite spooky and superstitious if they travelled back in time.
