My complaint doesn't arise from this one topic.  It arises from the entire sentiment from his forum.  It is very antisspx and it scrutinizes every action they make as somehow contrary to God and the Faith and ergo mortal sin and spitting in the eye of ABL.  Every little thing they do isn't good enough for these holier than thou keyboard warriors who know far more than these priests.

Besides, did anyone read the article?  There were some foreigners visiting?  Maybe the SSPX priests wanted to show the visitors a fun time at a novel american theme park with big sea creatures and fun.  Oh no.  I forgot, we need to go around in sackcloth and tell our visitors that they need to do so as well and to not have any fun.  Ever.  Because fun is sinful.

People need to get over themselves.

Kaesekopf (I just realized your name means 'cheese head' huh? lol Nice!)-

I would normally agree with you about the general Pharisaical attitude here (which really makes it hard for someone like to post here, since my temperament makes me prone to easy agitation and sometimes anger), but I do think its a bit overboard for priests to be doing this. I even had an SSPX priest give a sermon explaining why we shouldn't go to amusement parks. Would this be a deal breaker for me? Not in the least. And, now that I re-read your post, it seems like we're still on the same page (inserting foot in mouth again).

  • Priests at the amusement park is a ridiculous article for sspx.org to post.

    Particularly during Lent.

It shows an organization that no longer seems to be aware of its purpose.

  • Apparently, priests are to choose between riding roller coasters and sleeping on nails.

  • There's nothing wrong with going to see the ocean and the strand, in and of itself.

    Absolutely!!

When I first viewed that SSPX link and saw those pictures, I immediately thought Novus Ordo. They all speak with forked tongues. Bunch of  Hypocrites!!

  • Face it everyone: if you're against priests riding roller coasters at amusement parks, you must be against priests going canoeing, and in favour of blindfolding priests and making them sleep on nails.

After looking at that SSPX.org website, I suppose I should be telling my children that all the sacrifices that they willingly gave up for lent is totally unnecessary as LOOK......the priests are going Weeeeeeeeeee on these roller coasters and let's all go out and some fun??? Has lenten season evolved into something fun now?

So Kaesekopf,  these "foreigners" that are visiting these neo-SSPX priests certainly must be aware that it is a holy season of lent where sacrifices, mortification's, and penances are what's practiced by Catholics wanting to share a little of the Passion of our Lord?

When this neo-SSPX that has opened its heart to the liberal modernistic world and continues to do things that are contrary to tradition, YES!!! we are against this neo-SSPX that has betrayed all of us whom depended so much on them in holding fast to the one and only true Faith. YES!! there's going to be scrutinizing of every action that contradicts the practices of our Faith. Otherwise, we'll just be dumb sheep that's blindly following the herd.

They're deviously mixing our precious Faith with slow doses of modern liberalism that anesthetizes the brain and they're expecting everyone to happily adhere to this "mush". NO!!  They need to get over themselves and return to sole reason why ABL formed the SSPX......not just pick & choose parts what ABL said to fit their agenda.

You're the one that needs to get with REALITY and not fall into this typical Novus Ordo behavior.  :fryingpan:

  • The article, unless I have missed something, says the trip occured on Monday in February. That means it could've been the 4th or 11th, which is outside of Lent.

I understand it was published during Lent, but perhaps someone should find the correct date before we all start assuming.

All enjoyment must wait until Eastertide.

What can one do during Lent, then?  No reading?  No listening to music?  Can one go fishing or relax on the weekend?

Good question, and worth a hearty debate of the comprehensive meaning of "fasting" and how it profits our soul.

In the younger and/or early years of Catholic formation, we would perhaps "give up" something for Lent, which was good practice to assist us as we advance in the love and knowledge of God.   In  maturity we come to the profound understanding of Lenten sacrifice, His and ours.
Uniting our own modest ones to His suffering is actually quite easy and brings great joy, don't you think?

To your point, reading is perhaps my favorite pastime.  But during Lent I restrict it to materials that pertain to Him, esp His Passion.  Ditto for music.   I try to consider how much my small sacrifice of  <fill in the blank activity> during Lent could demonstrate my love.
Love seems to turn suffering into joy.  That still amazes me.

Is this rigorous?  I don't know.  Before modernist poisoning, we were encouraged to sacrifice often, and not just during Lent.   Great saints have written on the matter.  And of course He gave us the example of fasting.  Another hearty debate topic!   I look forward to the much wiser commentary of others.

That would be very helpful to know.  I so want to believe this visit occurred before Septuagesima.

As I mentioned previously, SeaWorld itself is a terrific educational facility.  In truth, it is a zoological institution and part of the AZA.  (the animals and exhibits are extraordinary and showcase the magnificence our Creator very well indeed).  It began to offer rides a number of years ago, to draw in the thrill seekers, taking advantage of the Disney/Universal tourists.

But Jerome makes a good point about what we teach our children, and the example of our priests.  A large portion of the weight of the cross they bear is maintaining rigorous standards of holiness, since they are called by the Father for our salvation.
    Yes, I said rigorous.

    That'll be next.

For those out there that are new to this sspx.org article for "public consumption", do not be too surprised that these "outings" are new to such "amusements"; they have been going on for quite a while.

This is only the first time that "officially" sspx.org, Fr. Rostand, is presenting this as something "wholesome and mainstream".  Fr. Peter Scott was adamantly against these kinds of "amusements" when he was the District Superior.

To add, I know first hand that 4-SSPX priests went on an "outing" that ended up in going to the beach -I was with them- unknowingly that this was a place we were stopping at; and begrudgingly I was very upset!

Additionally, 2-SSPX priests went "quietly" in the evening to a baseball game without cassocks and returned without cassocks "blissful" -I saw them go off and come back- and heard all about the "stadium games" the next day.  One of those priests had on his computer a screen saver depicting a "baseball pro" (not a Catholic saint); as with, he had a television in his room in which he used to watch the "big stadium games" on.  I had seen the "defining blue glow" through his window and him screaming "ball game shouting" when there was an "outstanding" play.

Unfortunately, there are many more stories that I know of over the years. This kind of "amusement" is not new; it is just now paraded as "wholesome and mainstream" to do from the leaders of the SSPX...just like other habits that go on in the conciliar church

It seems in this "new-deal" the SSPX leaders are trying to do with conciliar Rome, when they want to join them, they unfortunately begin to act like them.

It is also true that it is not important on what is on the "outside" of a person; it is what goes on in the "inside" that is important.  However, the "outside" type of amusements do reveal the "inside" thoughts and behaviors of an individual.

Yes for a religious it is very sad that these "sensual and inordinate" things are still going on in the SSPX...

  • LOL.  Now its questionable that a priest has a pro athlete as his background and not a saint.

You antisspxers are grasping at straws.  Its comical and sad.
