  • There is a huge Trad mecca in St. Mary's KS. Including a large Resistance location.
There is a lot going on around the East Coast. The new SSPX seminary is in Virginia. Bp. Z has a major chapel in CT/NY area. And there's the famous independent chapel "St. Athanasius" in VA as well.

Not to mention all the possible international flights (say, from France or England) that might end up in Washington, DC, even if it's just a hub or connecting flight.

What if a Dominican priest flew in to the USA to help out at the St. Mary's resistance chapel? Wouldn't he be on a flight exactly like the one that just exploded?

Fortunately, Bp. Z often drives from Kansas to his East Coast destination. Or, he goes there by way of Texas.

But a plane crash of this magnitude is still rather unsettling. Trad priests and bishops spend a huge percentage of their lives on airplanes. At least way more than the average Trad. Think of how many flights/year the average Trad priest takes, compared with the average Trad.

  • Dulles might not be as prone to this problem as Reagan.  Not sure though.  DC, like some other larger metro areas, has 2 airports, Dulles (a bit further West out in Virginia) and Reagan, and I think this issues primarly affects Reagan.

EDIT:  Just checked and while Reagan is right in the heart of D.C., Dulles is about 30 miles West of there in Virginia.  If I recall correctly, Reagan airport used to just be called "Washington National Airport" or something like that.  I'm old enough to have flown in there before the name change LOL.

Thankfully unlikely for this crash because Wichita is way to the south of St. Mary's by almost 2 hours.

Any clergy flying to St. Mary's are probably going to Kansas City since it's much cheaper and easier to land there and drive. Both the Society and likely the Resistance have a presence there as well.

  • So it was renamed from Washington National to Ronald Reagan Washington National in 1998 (signed by Clinton of all people).  Before 9/11, in 1998, when I woke up to a lot of stuff, I was a huge Reagan fan and thought it was awesome that the National Airport was named after him.

Correct, any SSPX or SAJM priests going to/from St. Mary's/Emmett Kansas would fly from Kansas City. Wichita is too far south to be practical (2.5-hour drive compared to 1.5 to MCI)

The SSPX has a chapel in Wichita, but the priests drives from St. Mary's.

  • It’s unlikely a resistance priest would be on that particular route. Of course, resistance priests and even some SSPX priests still spend above average time in above the earth rather than on it!  Could one eventually be in a plane crash?  Yes. Statistically there are more auto accidents with fatalities than plane crashes, but if the plane you’re in crashes, you are less likely to survive than a car crash. There are more people survivably injured in car crashes than in plane crashes.
Given a choice, would you prefer being in a car crash or a plane crash?
