Yes, this is true.
I should have mentioned it -- I was focusing only on the mindset/position of both groups.
The Traditional movement has always had 3 tenets:
1. Complete aloofness from the Conciliar Church, to avoid contamination. This involved avoiding the Novus Ordo, even if no Trad Mass was available.
2. Seeking out valid priests and sacraments, usually the priests had pre-Vatican II formation or Trad formation if they were too young to be educated before V2.
3. Knowing that permission is not required from the Modernists to stay Catholic. Permission and jurisdiction were NEVER issues for any Trads in the beginning.

In the Novus Ordo world, the Sunday after Easter is "Mercy Sunday".

How interesting that the "Pope of Mercy" should choose that particular day to exercise such... "mercy".

In a way, a public act like this can be considered "merciful" in that it is a clearer line of demarcation than some of the other "concessions" Rome has given.

All of the other concessions (faculties, lifting of the excommunications, etc.,) were "imposed" by Rome, with the SSPX being the passive recipient. This is different. They are actively taking part in and accepting of it.

Many trads have been waiting for the "red line" to be crossed to make their decision regarding the SSPX. Will this be it? Time will tell.

No, the “red line” will never be crossed. Because these sspx trads can always claim, like one forum member has already, that sspx priests are “100% valid.” (Whether that’s true or not, is a question, perhaps, for extended debate. But I won’t get into it here, or probably anywhere else.
Hey, if a Muslim iman was elected pope, and Shinto priests were ordained by the church, it wouldn’t matter. These hardcore sspxers have their “valid” sacraments, don’t they? They have their “valid” priests, don’t they? It will all work out just peachy for them in the short run. The other shoe will never drop for them, and that is just what Fellay & Co. are banking upon. They are past masters at boiling a frog slowly.

FSSP would probably be #2, if you count them as Traditional. I don't, for good reason. From the very beginning of the Trad movement, permission from the Modernists was NOT part of the movement. On the contrary! It was all about emergency jurisdiction, keeping the Faith outside the official structures, aloofness from the Conciliar Church (the New Mass, any any priests/bishops ordained in the new Rite), knowledge that Freemasons were behind Vatican II, etc.

FSSP (and now, the SSPX) says that Vatican II was just mis-interpreted. It's mostly Catholic, and the rest should be interpreted via Pope Benedict's "Hermeneutic of Continuity". BIG DIFFERENCE. If it was all a misunderstanding, then the Conciliar Church is so many LOST SHEEP: let's get ourselves in there and help them straighten it out! But if Rome is Freemason (diabolical enemy) occupied territory, then the Conciliar Church is occupied by WOLVES and we have to proceed differently -- it would certainly be madness to place ourselves under their authority in any way!

I hate adding more divisions or being less than "trad-cuмenical", but I have to admit the FSSP really doesn't qualify as Trad. They are more "conservative Catholic" or "Latin Mass preferring Catholic".

In opposition to Bp. Fellay, I'd say that for TRAD Catholics, Vatican II *is* a boogeyman to be completely avoided. It IS a superheresy, as a matter of fact. The fact that he (and the entire SSPX leadership) mocks these tenets of Tradition is enough to leave the SSPX immediately, in my opinion.

RE the FSSP....The term I often use is "traditionalistic." As in real vs realistic. A gun replica looks real, thus realistic, but it does not operate/exist the same as a real firearm: "This IS the 44 magnum, and it is still one of the most powerful handguns in the world"
