The Priests at the Church I attend tend to follow pre-1962, possibly that's why they commented fast and complete abstinence for this Saturday? I apologize if I'm beating a dead horse here, I tend to get confused with what rules established in what year apply now

The Imprimatur on the above is from 1957. Notice that October 31 was dropped as a fast day.

They are mistaken.  Even in the "pre 55" fast and abstinence rules, the fast and abstinence do not transfer if the Vigil falls on a Sunday and must be transferred to Saturday.

Some of the "pre 55" calendars for this year have this Saturday marked as a day of fast and abstinence, but the calendars are incorrect.

I very much appreciate the clarifications, one of the many things I enjoy since finding this forum. 
My last question, I hope, is what to do when my Priest advises us that this Saturday is a day of fast and complete abstinence, am I not obliged to follow that direction?

He has no authority over you and in any event, he is wrong.
