It truly reads like he's had his head in the Douay Rheims a lot recently (particularly the Old Testament, such as the books of Judges, Kings, and Paralipomenon (Chronicles).

He does a pretty good job of writing in that style.

Fortunately, we all know he's a french fry short of a Happy Meal.
