It seems my grandparents issued an ultimatum...

If you can't get along with them then it is probably best to just say nothing at all. By now they probably know how you feel and sometimes its better to be silent than to be relentlessly arguing with them.

Okay but the title of the thread is about this "ultimatum". So before I make more assumptions: are you of age to be taking care of yourself (20 or 21, maybe), with a high school education and a career? Because that's hugely different than if you're 16 or 17 and in high school, but you took a flat and work nights to pay for it, and might need some extra support. (And not just money, of course; parental-style support).

Most people who have EVER lived ...EVER could blame previous generations for messing something up. Imagine Cain and Abel and their peers. It's part of the "human experience". Minus Shem, Japheth, and Ham, who couldn't really complain too much about previous generations as God washed them all away, but even they started up on the evil again REAL quick. Before the ground dried. Because: original sin. It's going to run through ALL generations in some fashion.

Have your grandparents hurt you? (I mean rape, not your feelings). Because I don't think I even knew what my family's political leanings were; maybe if you can just drop the hot-button issues, you could swallow that pride and get along with them?

Because EVEN IF YOU DON'T, you WILL. If you want to follow +Jesus, just make life easier for yourself right now and drop the pride, all pretenses of it,  Repeat to yourself, "I am not right". Drop the pride, or God will drop it FOR you, and trust me you do NOT want that. Yes, we say we want that in the Miserere (ps 51, break my bones, etc) and it's a very lovely sentiment, but VERY PAINFUL, and one we can SKIP if we don't HAVE that errant evil pride in us to begin with.

Yes it seems like false humility at first, but practice makes perfect. If your grandparents get a friendly ear from you, and patience, they might very well miraculously start seeming nicer very soon, and may start making some sense. I've noticed people in feuds stop making sense because they are frustrated, and will argue the craziest things. Maybe Nonna and nonno don't believe what they even say to you, but everyone's been so adversarial for so long that they'll just say anything and indeed, they truly may not make sense. But maybe if you are just nice, and don't argue with them over ANYTHING, they may start making sense again. They may become great advocates for you; and you for them. Treat them with respect ("deserved" or not).

Because they're your people. the people God put you with. Maybe instead of thinking of their required move as an "ultimatum", you could think of it more as an "invitation" to come with them? Think, "Ah, someone loves me so much, they WANT me to come with them." Sort of sounds NICE to me. ???

I think you'll find yourself richly and unexpectedly BLESSED if you go about it as if THEIR happiness is more important to you than your own. Blessed with a wife, and many children, and nonni (grandparents, whatever you call them) and a large family. Instead of alone with a lot of anger.

So - where's Trad Guy???
Can't answer the questions?
Heat got too bad?
Doesn't want to face the facts of life?
Got tired of the game?
Got a job?
Took his grandparents up on their invitation to move with them?
Grew up?
All of the above?

I work more than full-time hours so I don't have time to always answer your stupid little soliloquy.

Did I touch a nerve somewhere, Trad Guy?  I prayed for you just like I said I would.
So glad to see you at work.
