I can see some truth in that.  Do you think women have any responsibility?

Well our faith teaches us that a woman's primary responsibility is to their children and their home.  So if a woman is keeping house, raising children, homeschooling...when does she have time to work a job?  We are talking about traditional Catholics....not worldly people.

It seems to me inherent in the above question is that these "jobs" the women do aren't viewed as work.  Would you agree with that?

There are only 24 hours in a day.  How many hours should a wife work?

No, not at all.  You seem to have completely misunderstood me.

Then please explain.  I'm really enjoying this convo and I really want to understand where you're coming from.

Me too.  I think that somehow husbands have to take responsibility for their wives and by doing that I mean, the good and the bad.  O.k., so if your wife decides that she's not going to keep house anymore (which may include doing your laundry, cooking your meals and washing your dishes), because, for example, she wants to invest the homemaking time into homeschooling, then I think you've got to accept that and try to get her to be more balanced, but ultimately not let it drive you crazy/into divorce court.  And of course, I think it goes the same way for wives.  Although, when it comes to money, people are "funny."  And I think that's maybe where we need that spirit of poverty to protect us from our own attachments to wealth and the misery it can produce, when our own sense of entitlement is challenged.

Sometimes a man's just gotta roll up his sleeves and get to work!
