Father Leo Carley -- Prayer Request
« on: January 26, 2024, 09:28:18 PM »
Father Leo Carley is very ill with pneumonia.

He is 89 years old (will be 90 in October of this year) and still runs Immaculate Heart of Mary chapel in Akron OH and for many years also drove down to Wheeling, WV.  He was ordained for the Diocese of Scranton in 1958, and was one of the earliest members of the Orthodox Roman Catholic Movement started in 1975 by then-Father McKenna and Father Francis Fenton.

Father Carley is one of the last remaining members of the "old guard", priests ordained before Vatican II, and in his case during the reign of Pope Pius XII.

In the 36 years that I've known him, I don't know of a single time Father missed even a single day due to illness ... apart from when he had a broken hip about 10 years ago now, but he was back in just a few weeks.  At 89, he has still been offering Sunday Mass and Daily Mass, 2 Masses on Holy Days of obligation, and hearing Confessions before every Mass.

He was supposed to baptize my niece's new baby tomorrow after the Saturday morning Mass tomorrow, but he suddenly became very ill with pneumonia, so that the news just reached us late this tonight.  Knowing Father Carley, I expect him to bounce back, but given his age, we can never know.

God bless Fr. Leo. I hope and pray he has a speedy recovery. I’ve read your posts, and he seems like a faithful servant of God.

Here's an old "throwback" copy of the ORCM newsletter, from 1975, listing Father Carley as a priest member (in Connecticut at the time).  It's interesting to read these, and it seems so long ago.  I was only 8 years old in 1975.  I started attending his chapel in Akron beginning about early 1988, so about 13 years after this time.
