Act of Perfect Contrition
« on: November 03, 2023, 12:37:44 PM »
Anyone have a link to a Traditional Catholic Act of Perfect Contrition?  I want to make sure it's traditional.

It's not the same thing as the Act of Contrition said after confession, right?

Thank you.

There's a talk posted in this thread:

By Father Bernard Uttley, (CMRI) which is really good.

He explains the history and theology behind the practice which was affirmed at Trent.

According to him, when done with the proper understanding, which includes the intention to go to confession as soon as one is able

the Act of Contrition we say in the confessional provides for perfect contrition quite beautifully because of the words,

"Most of all, because they have offended Thee, Who art all good, and worthy of all my love."

Those words are perfect contrition.

Words alone are not an act of perfect contrition no matter how beautifully arranged.
It is the sincerity and resolve of the penitent that makes it perfect.
Perfect contrition could be as short as "I'm sorry" for someone properly disposed.

The act of contrition rattled off in confession without sincerity and resolve would hardly qualify as an imperfect act of contrition.

Yes, that's true.   Fr Uttley goes over that as well.  :)
