  • I got these pictures from Fr. Voigt's email list, and I just had to share them. It reminds me of when he told me to "Quit complaining!"

  •  :dancing-banana:Are these photos from the Blizzard of 1977, northern NY or Canada?

You still have snow, right?  I lived in a boarding house in Watertown, NY in 1977, and it looked just like these photos.  We had to enter and exit via a second floor porch balcony door.  I remember driving through the Adirondack pass with eight-foot high walls of snow on either side of the road.  When it melted in April, the basements on my block all flooded.  Ours, the water was three steps from the top stairs.  A real mess!

  • I live in Wisconsin, and we got about an inch of slushy snow overnight. Some places are getting between 8 inches and a foot of snow right now up here towards Lake Superior. Not here, though. We had a little icing (which you could see on the trees) and it's "warm" out (if you compare it to what we've been getting.) I think we've gotten all of 5 days over 40 degrees the whole year so far.

In SD they know how to handle it and have the right equipment.  Here in NYC?  A garbage truck gets a flimsy straight blade clamped onto the front, and it's christened a snowplow!  They wait until it quits snowing before clearing the roads, but by then, they're clogged with stalled out and stuck vehicles whose owners abandoned them!  Our snow is gone.  There are close to a million potholes as a reminder lest we complain about the heat!

  • Next time I want to complain of the heat I am going to think on those pictures.

  • I feel claustrophobic just looking at those pictures.  I can't imagine comfortably driving on the road with the wall of snow on either side.
