Besides the fact that the One True Church founded by Christ is not a "sect", Brazil is not blocked as a country. I might have blocked one or two addresses from there, if any spammers or ex-members happened to live there, but I unblocked Brazil well over a year ago. There are simply too many Traditional Catholics there to block the country. That's where Bp. Thomas Aquinas is based, for crying out loud!

I also wasn't using a high-end IP address database for determining the country. In other words, sometimes it makes mistakes.

To block a country, I have 3 criteria:
A) Minuscule number of Traditional Catholics
B) Equally minuscule number of English speakers
C) High % of bots, compromised computers, and/or hackers -- i.e., "high risk"

So if the country is HIGH RISK as well as LOW POTENTIAL REWARD, then I block it.

By "reward" I mean having legitimate users from that country visit and use CathInfo.

So there explodes one of his main excuses/reasons for spamming the forum. Maybe he should have just written to me and given his (normal) IP address, and I could have looked it up. "Oh, your address comes up as being in Ukraine. That's why you were blocked. I removed the block." I've had that very conversation with someone before. There was a HUGE mistake like that in the country lookup.

Incidentally, I'm no longer adding more and more ips from ANY country to the block list. I stopped that process when I upgraded to the new software (1/2 a year ago). So right now my list of blocked addresses and address ranges is only going one direction: down. Except for adding a few addresses here and there when I perma-ban someone...

He's in Russia, not Brazil.
But, I agree, he should have just sent his IP and asked to be unblocked.
