Again-- the point of this topic is to describe someone with a dark mnd as a nigger. This was not meant to be racial until my orig post was deleted leaving that impression.

That's one way to look at it --

You can either look at it as a slang term for a "black person", which became derogatory with the passage of time,

Or you can re-cast the word to mean "gangster", "someone with a dark mind", etc. -- after all, most people don't have an urge to call Alan Keyes a "nigger". He is rational, educated, an upstanding citizen, etc.

I know there are blacks in the (traditional) Catholic priesthood (and currently one black seminarian in the SSPX seminary, if I'm not mistaken), and those are certainly not deserving of ANY derogatory term, even if the term was a technical description at one time.

I've learned not to use the term, just like swear words, but I think if I were forced to use the term, I would only consider using it with gangsters, hoodlums, criminals, etc. After all, that is the group that uses the term to refer to themselves!

Alcohol and Cocaine alter one's mood as well. Catholics are allowed to consume a certain amount of the former and a Pope has been known to have a glass of wine derived from the latter. So your Jansenist point is what then?

I am sorry to have to point this out but another example of the obstinacy of Belloc is his refusal to under stand that Savanarola was a heretic by the decision of INQ. The defrocked monk admitted this himself as well. :heretic:

Well, God created and blessed all animals. Does it mean that we are jansenists if we hate/kill/avoid cockroachs?
He also created poisons,germs and viruses. Do we have to love them?

Not exactly. Picture, if you will (as I believe this to be an accurate picture), the time before the fall of man, who was created to be bodily immortal, when death was yet unknown in the world, and man ate only herbs and seeds, the animal kingdom, being entirely subject to Adam, was then at peace, and all things co-existed in violence free harmony.

It was of this scenario that it is written: "And God saw all the things that he had made, and they were very good. And the evening and morning were the sixth day."

After Adam fell, though, God withdrew much of the comfort and support he had given to earth - He did not create evils, but withdrew goods - and the process of death and decay, a symptom of sin, had begun.

I believe it is in this new environment, where God had withdrawn by degrees from His creation, that poison became rightly so-called, since before it was just some substance or other that God had created good to fulfill a particular function that did not involve death.

So "poisons, germs and viruses" before the fall would have performed some function or other that in no way involved death or decay.
