Fr. Matthew Clifton (SSPX) said:

"The terrible divisions which now undermine our Society are not the fruit of rebellion and disobedience, but clearly are the result of a seismic change of principle on the part of our Superiors in the relation to Rome. Abandoning the security and prudence of the position adopted by the Society at the last meeting of the General Chapter (2006), namely of refusing any practical agreement with the Roman authorities without there being any doctrinal resolution of the errors of the Second Vatican Council, has proved to be a disaster. Consequently, the Society which was always united and strong is now fractured and weakened – brother is turning against brother. No convincing argument has been presented as a justification for such a fundamental shift in position – the Holy Father has not altered in any way whatsoever his insistence upon the hermeneutic of continuity in relation to Tradition and the teachings of the last Council. And yet, we are simply meant to accept the contrary.

This approach could not but produce the profound malaise that now affects our Society. Additionally, the misuse of secrecy on such a grand scale by our current Superiors, accompanied by privileging a small group of trusted supports of the new policy towards Rome, has served to exacerbate this painful situation even further.

Hence, it is abundantly clear to me that those who truly bear responsibility for the current storm are not those who have attempted to preserve our Society’s firmness and unambiguous profession of the Catholic Faith in relation to the Conciliar authorities but those who chose to abandon the wisdom of insisting upon a real conversion on the part of Modernist Rome before envisaging a practical agreement."

Your Excellency,

As you wrote it recently: "the links which unite us are essentially supernatural". However, you rightly reminded us that the requirements of nature must nevertheless not be forgotten. "Grace does not destroy nature". Among these requirements, there is truthfulness. Yet, these last months, we notice that a part of the problems with which we were confronted come from a grave negligence to this virtue (truthfulness).

Ten years ago, as Bishop Tissier de Mallerais, you said:
"Never shall I agree to say: "in the Council, if we interpret it well, if we make it match with Tradition, we could find an acceptable sense." Never shall I agree to say that. That would be a lie; it is not allowed to tell a lie, even if it was a question of saving the Church." (Gastines, September 16th, 2012).

But since then, you changed:
"The whole Tradition of the catholic faith has to be the criterion and the guide to understand the teachings of the Vatican II Council, which in its turn enlightens certain aspects of the life and the doctrine of the Church, implicitly present in her, not formulated yet. The assertions of the Vatican II Council and of the Papal Magistery relative to the relation between the Roman Catholic Church and the non-Catholic and Christian confessions must be understood in the light of the whole Tradition." Letter of the 7 French SSPX Deans (and the religious superiors of the Transfiguration Monastery, the Capuchins of Morgon, anf the Benedictines of Bellaigue):

"In light of these principles appears the real scope of the Roman docuмent. Persevering in the disastrous line of Vatican II, the Roman authorities simply want to deprive you of the extraordinary form of marriage by denying the state of necessity. This docuмent therefore requires you to appeal to a diocesan priest for your marriages, not leaving the priests of the SSPX more than the possibility of celebrating the subsequent Mass. The Ecclesia Dei Commission foresees that, whenever possible , the Bishop will delegate a priest of the Diocese to attend marriages (or a priest of another ecclesiastical circuмscription with due licenses), receiving the consent Of the spouses during the celebration of the marriage which, in the liturgy of the Vetus Ordo, takes place at the beginning of the Holy Mass. This is celebrated later by a priest of the Fraternity.

It is only " where it is not possible that there are priests of the Diocese who can receive the consent of the parties, the Ordinary can directly grant the necessary powers to a priest of the Fraternity." In other words, it is only and only if there is a case of necessity - of which we ignore nature, since it is no longer a question of the serious damage that the liberal spirit causes to the Catholic faith - that the bishop can give the delegation to a priest Of the FSSPX. All other marriage celebrated by a priest of the SSPX without explicit delegation of the Ordinary, will continue to be considered invalid by the current holders of the supreme authority.

In addition to the fact that this decision is both unjust and void, it makes a new violation of the spirit of law: the Ecclesia Dei commission allowed here what even the new code of canon law prohibited, namely, to place under the control of the Ordinary the form Extraordinary of marriage, and this at the expense of the natural right to marriage."SSPX

Letter of Support to the 7 French Deans of the SSPX from Fr. Dennis Puga (SSPX):

Paris, 7 May, 2017

It is with attention that I read your “Letter of the Deans” which was made public on May 7th. As a district priest, I would like to sincerely thank you for such a clear and strong declaration, which I am sure will have the effect of reassuring our faithful in the certainty of always finding among the priests of our beloved Society of Saint Pius X the assistance necessary to contract and celebrate their marriage in the spirit of the fight led by Archbishop Lefebvre, that is to say, in a spirit of unfailing fidelity to the teaching of the Church.

The decision of Pope Francis, made public by the Ecclesia Dei Commission last April, and already widely commented on in the media, caused great concern among the faithful; they were afraid that we would now ask them to rely on the decision of the local bishops to validly and lawfully be able to exchange the matrimonial consent according to the traditional rite.

The true, precise, faithful and canonically well-argued argument of your letter will reassure and appease them. Already, I have received testimonies. You have acted as true pastors who are concerned about the good and the protection of the souls that God has entrusted to you. In the present situation, speaking loudly, strongly and without hesitation has become more necessary than ever; you have done so, and we sincerely thank you for it.

I particularly appreciated the conclusion of your letter in which you emphasize that this first step towards the granting of a personal prelature, which is supposed to let us remain as we are, paradoxically consists in a desire to subject the marriages of our faithful to ordinaries who have no objections against the deleterious teachings and the disastrous decisions of Pope Francis on the sanctity of marriage.

I can assure you that many confreres of the district, with whom I have already had the opportunity to talk, share in this a feeling of gratitude. As one of them told me : “It is a beautiful text, clear and comforting by such vigor that we thought we would never again be hearing.”

May the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to which Monsignor Lefebvre has consecrated the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, be our help. May Our Lord keep you and protect you.
