  • From the collective State memory of Grant’s saturation artillery bombing of Vicksburg, I believe Mississippi did not again celebrate the 4th of July until 1964.

    BTW, Grant’s nickname from the Battle of Spotsylvania (that Yankee historians don’t mention) was “butcher”.
