Please report any CathInfo problems!
« on: April 07, 2016, 02:25:40 PM »
A day and a half ago, I discovered that PMs weren't working, so I hurried up and fixed that.
Yesterday, I discovered that Registration wasn't working, and I fixed it.
Today, someone reported that SEARCH wasn't working, and I just fixed that.

I haven't had time to scour the whole site, testing everything. So if you find anything non-functional, PLEASE report it!

I already know about certain "tags" like [img], , and regular text links being invisible. I am working on that problem already.

This is all due to the recent move, and/or the upgrade to PHP 5.5.

Sorry for the inconveniences --

Matthew

I had the impression it was a pretty seamless transfer.

It's that last 2% that gets you.

The problems were mostly because some database fields got a default value of "none" rather than the official NULL which apparently makes a difference. This little glitch disabled everything from new registrations to PMs.

And then there are other problems (some fixed, some ongoing) because we upgraded beyond PHP 5.5. This version of PHP dropped a few commands that CathInfo was using A LOT. This was the cause of the search function not working before today (when I just fixed it).

A few more problems were related to files (avatars, and attachments to various posts). My FTP program was set to treat those files as text files! So naturally they weren't working. I had to re-download them all, and then upload them all again. Now both are working.

I looked over the "missing files" section of my website stats, making sure everything looked OK. While I was in there, I noticed a lot of apple icons missing. So I created some icons for "Apple touch" -- any Apple users out there? Do you see a custom icon for CathInfo now?

Regarding images and youtubes....  Will old posts that utilized and embed features reappear with their images and youtubes in tact?

Yes, they all will.

No permanent damage is being done. These tags are all just "hidden for now", as it were.

For now, you can "quote" a post you want to get a certain website link from, and you'll see the link is still there.

That's good as I have put a lot of time and work into some of my threads in the sacred section utilizing music and images.
