Should a woman ever be the head of the relationship?

I have a Catholic friend, Traditional, who is a little bit older. He is disappointed in me for taking the initiative to court, and having an ideal of marriage in the future. He's of the opinion I shouldn't. In other words, she should choose me, talk to me first, invite to court me, and propose to marry me. He's actually hurt I'm doing things the way the Bible describes.

There are multiple men in the Bible who propose, let alone introduce themselves to the woman, not once have I seen the other way around.

Is this the devil speaking through him? It seems unnatural compared to his usual demeanor.
He's a fan of having women walk all over him, possibly it's a touchy subject when I told him. 

We've bonded over St Pius X, Church doctors, life. I'd hate to see our friendship severed over so called misogyny. There is no way I'm going to change, though.

Yeah, I'm not doubting myself but it hurts when you damage a good friendship even when you did nothing wrong. You know it man?

I'll leave him alone if he isn't able to get past it after today. It's still like damn, all the patience I've had holding your hand while you cried some St. Theresa of Little Flower girl left you again, and now you're upset at me.
