  • Catholic Family News R.I.P.

    Thank you and Farewell

Dear Subscribers and Supporters of Catholic Family News,

With sadness, the Board of Directors of Catholic Family News has made the difficult decision to close the paper.  The December issue of CFN will be its last.
Catholic Family News began in 1993 as an occasional publication. When John Vennari became its editor in 1994, CFN became a monthly journal dedicated to promoting the Catholic Faith of all time.  As such, CFN upheld the Traditional Latin Mass, the Anti-Modernist measures of Pope St. Pius X, the Message of Our Lady of Fatima, the Social Kingship of Christ, and the richness, beauty, and holiness of “the faith once delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3).

John Vennari served as editor of Catholic Family News until his death in 2017.  He was a happy warrior and a beloved figure in the Traditional Catholic movement who combined trenchant analysis of Church affairs with incomparable wit and good humor.  Since his passing, Matt Gaspers, Dr. Brian McCall, and Murray Rundus ably continued CFN’s mission.

Catholic Family News has always printed in-depth articles about Church issues. Unfortunately, such a business model is no longer viable today.  Over the past 20 years, as people turned to the internet to get instant news and analysis, more than 2000 newspapers in North America closed. Few people today, especially in the younger generations, read for pleasure, preferring instead to get information from videos and other digital offerings. Because of these trends, subscriptions to Catholic Family News have fallen to a point at which it is simply not financially viable to continue the paper.  In the upcoming months, subscribers to Catholic Family News will receive refunds for the outstanding portions of their subscriptions.

    John Vennari was a close
collaborator and friend of the late Father Nicholas Gruner, the Executive Director of The Fatima Center.  Like Father Gruner, John believed that fulfillment of the requests of Our Lady of Fatima is the only solution to the crises bedeviling the Church and the world today.  Catholic Family News has turned over its archives to The Fatima Center USA, which will preserve the legacy of Catholic Family News by featuring articles and videos from John and other,

former CFN contributors that continue to have relevance.  The Fatima Center will also continue to promote the full Message of Fatima with more urgency than ever.
On behalf of the Boards of Directors of both Catholic Family News and The Fatima Center USA, thank you to Matt Gaspars, Brian McCall, and Murray Rundus for their excellent work on CFN.  Thank you also to all who supported, subscribed to, and contributed to CFN over the years.  Please continue to pray for the souls of John Vennari and Father Gruner.  Most importantly, please pray and offer sacrifices for Holy Mother Church suffering through her agony.  May we live to see the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart or die having done all we can to obtain the graces necessary for it.

Andrew Cesanek, President of Catholic Family News

  • I think it means the SSPX leadership believes they've won the hearts & minds of most faithful in the Trad wars.

Like Tecuмseh Sherman, BP. Fellay has slashed & burned his enemies... which aren't modernist, but other traditional Catholics who would criticize his GREC vision.

He propagandized the evil sedes, and outlived most of his trad critics.

Naive Catholics believed his schtick, where we must be beholden to the papal circus clowns Bergolio and Chicago Bob.

He led his flock to Rome, 8 thousand strong to burn their incense.

No need for CFN propaganda rags anymore...the war is over. The SSPX is victorious.

  • Two things of note I always remember about CFN:

    1. They refused to ever print the truth about Israel and 9-11.  (E. Michael Jones allowed the coverage by among other things having Robert Sungenis do an astounding cover story book review in Culture Wars extending into the immediate subsequent issue of Christopher Bollyn's record setting thorough expose of the Jews' in general and Israel's in particular center role in the planning, execution, and cover-up of 9-11.

    2.  They absolutely refused to place an ad for trad Catholic Hugh Akins book ѕуηαgσgυє Rising as seen, for example, at https://www.isoc.ws/product/akins-ѕуηαgσgυє-rising/

ѕуηαgσgυє Rising: A Catholic Worldview of Anti-Christian Judaism and Counterrevolutionary Resistance

  • And after 2012, they became a shill for the SSPX.  Before then, they had rarely covered any SSPX news.

After the SSPX rebranding and Jєωιѕн funding, things changed and CFN became an SSPX megaphone, especially after Fr. Gruner's death.

Brian McCall became the new editor of CFN after John Venari died.  His son attended Our Lady of LaSalette boys school(SSPX) and I believe his son became a priest for the SSPX.

  • There is ample evidence to debate that CFN was part of the controlled opposition.

John Vennari spent (14) years in Michael Dimond's monastery before leaving and joining Fr. Gruner's CFN operation.  Fr. Gruner  retained editorial control until he died.

After Fr. Gruner died. CFN became more and more aligned with the neoSSPX.

They published SSPX advertisements, historical articles (mostly propaganda) and other SSPX approved news and opinions.

The related operation, "The Fatima Center" was reorganized and many SSPX sycophants started working there. such as Fr. Albert.

I firmly believe shutting down CFN was a Menzingen decision.

You appear to have a very strange definition of "evidence", and it leads to slanderous accusations on your part.  What is your "evidence", since you present absolutely none in the rant that follows this statement?

Because he spent 14 years with Brother Natale?  It was right around the time that he left when the Dimond Brothers started to move toward sedevacantism, so something had change.  Bishpo Williamson spent decades with SSPX.  Did he change or did the SSPX change?  When there's a change, either on the person's part or the group's part, a departure under those conditions constitutes evidence of nothing.

For no reason at all you "firmly believe" Menzingern shut down CFN ... as if what they state as the reason isn't at all plausible.  They're not wrong about the fact that printed publications simply cannot survive financially anymore ... and they were simply unable to adapt by figuring out ways to monetize the operation without suscribers paying a monthly fee to receive the publication.

Dear Incredulous - I agree with Lads...Same here.  If CFN was an unOfficial media outlet for the SSPX, why would they even consider eradicating it? To have more subscribers for "The Angelus Magazine"? et al...also ,expand your definition of 'controlled opposition' personally I don't even know what that means. Is it a type of agenda?
So if you have a shred of evidence, I am sure many would like a p:mad:k.
