The Archdiocese of St. Louis has filed suit to block a new city ordinance that would make it illegal to discriminate on the basis of “reproductive health decisions.”
The ordinance, which was enacted in February over the strenuous opposition of Archbishop Robert Carlson, would make women who are actively considering abortions a “protected class” under civil-rights law. Thus an employer who refused to hire a woman because she expressed her plan to abort would be in violation, as would a school that refused to hire a teacher who supported abortion.
“Let me be perfectly clear: The Archdiocese of St. Louis will not comply with his ordinance,” Archbishop Carlson told a press conference. He described the measure as “a marker of our city’s embrace of the culture of death.”
In a federal lawsuit, the archdiocese is asking the court to halt enforcement of the ordinance immediately, and to declare the measure unconstitutional. The archbishop emphasized, however, that the archdiocese would not comply with the rule in any case.

A Dutch bishop has withdrawn his permission for an ecuмenical prayer service to mark “Pink Saturday.”
Bishop Gerard de Korte of Hertogenbosch had originally given permission for the service to take place in the cathedral of St. John, with the proviso that nothing should be said or done that would contradict the position of the Catholic Church regarding ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity. However, after hearing protests from the faithful the bishop reversed his decision. The level of protests, Bishop de Korte said, indicated that “the good relations within the religious community is at stake.”
The “Pink Saturday” prayers service will be held on June 22 at a nearby Protestant church.

Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois, has instructed his pastors that they should not administer the sacraments to Catholics who are engaged in same-sex marriages.
In a formal decree circulated to the clergy of the diocese—which promptly leaked to the secular media—Bishop Paprocki said that since the government now offers legal recognition to same-sex marriages, the Church “has not only the authority, but the serious obligation, to affirm its authentic teaching on marriage and to preserve and foster the sacred value of the married state.”
Toward that end, the bishop said, Catholics should not participate in same-sex marriage ceremonies, nor should those events take place in churches or on parish property, the bishop said. Catholics who are legally married to same-sex partners should not be lectors or extraordinary ministers of Eucharist; they should not be admitted to RCIA classes or Confirmation programs; they should not be sponsors or godparents.
The bishop instructed his priests not to administer Communion to people who are engaged in same-sex marriages, nor to allow their funerals, unless there is an indication that the individuals have repented and accepted the Church’s teaching. If informed that a parishioner is involved in a same-sex union, Bishop Paprocki directed his priests to “address these concerns privately with the persons in such circuмstances, calling them to conversion.”
The bishop said that children living with same-sex couples could be baptized if there is a reasonable expectation that they will be raised in the Catholic faith. Similarly, children living with same-sex couples may be enrolled in Catholic schools, he said—but the “parents and those who legally take the place of parents” should be advised that the children will be taught according to the Church’s understanding of marriage.

What do you credit this clown with resisting? This make-believe-bishop is hardly a profile in courage. Rather than citing coming to his senses as the reason for backing out of Fag Day festivities, he says "the good relations within the religious community is at stake.” So he is doing the right thing, but hardly for the right reason. As far as resistance, he doesn't have the backbone to resist squat. Sounds like he should be called a RESISTED person (not bishop if he was concecrated via the bastardized Montini rite--though most people are sticking their heads in the sand to cope with what that means as to Bergoglio question) because he was so firmly resisted that had to abandon his liberal initiatives.
