  • They have created an advertising campaign to sell their junk food by parodying Consecration Verses from the Gospels:

Take this all of you, and eat of it. That doesn't have meat.

And in the middle of Lent, incredible.

  • I don't think that its intent is to be blasphemous; it's in poor taste, pun intended, but I don't think that any disrespect for the Sacred Scriptures was intended.

And of course they promote it during Lent; the idea is that you can eat it because it has no meat.

Between paraphrasing the Sacred Scriptures and telling people there's no meat in it, its intent is to appeal to those who won't eat meat for religious reasons during (parts of) Lent.  They don't want to drive away but to attract those people who have enough faith that they wish to keep the fast.

It's objectively blasphemous, but I don't think that was their intent.  They thought they were being funny and were trying to make money appealing to Catholics to eat their non-meat Whopper during Lent.

It's in Spanish, so it is for Latinos. Talk about a small audience, Latino Catholics today eat meat even on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, the only days (I think) in which the Novus Ordo "recommends" that they not eat meat. The only Catholics that don't eat meat are the vegetarians and they never eat meet.

  • Burger King has been going downhill for years.  We have been boycotting the place for a decade, at least, since they came out with their weird king mascot.

They opened the first Burger King in Miami Beach when I was in like 8th grade, like 1968. I ate a Whopper and got diarrhea. Never ate them again. My Mom made unreal burgers, with Beef, pork, and a tad of sausage. I was spoiled for life. My wife cooks even better than my Mom did, no comparison, she is a master. God is good.

  • Reminder that Burger King in Israel sold adult meals with sex toys for Valentine's Day
I recant many opinions on the crisis in the Church and moral theology that I have espoused on here from at least 2019-2021 don't take my postings from that time as well as 2022 possibly too seriously.

  • A small meteor impact on Tel Aviv should be sufficient.
"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Too true.
I don't really wish for destruction but I'm about bone-weary of all the evil.

Your mother's burgers sound kind of like pljeskavica.  Never had them but they're on my list of things to do.  I have had cevapcipi which are kind of the same idea, though they can be made with only one kind of meat (I made them with ground beef), whereas the mix of different kinds of meat are, to paraphrase the Subaru commercial, what makes a pljeskavica a pljeskavica.

  • Burger King in Spain apologizes, pulls offensive Holy Week Ads

    By Diego Lopez Marina

    Lima, Peru, Apr 18, 2022 / 14:59 pm

The fast-food chain Burger King in Spain has withdrawn and apologized for an offensive ad campaign that sparked outrage among Catholics during Holy Week.
“We apologize to all those who have felt offended by our campaign aimed at promoting our vegetable products during Holy Week. Our intention has never been to offend anyone and the immediate withdrawal of the campaign has already been requested,” Burger King announced Easter Sunday on its official Twitter account.
The fast-food chain chose to use on billboards throughout Spain the words of Jesus at the Last Supper consecrating the bread, modifying them to promote a new vegetarian burger. The ad campaign provoked the outrage of thousands of Catholics, several priests, and a bishop.
One of the billboards read: “Take all of you and eat of it. Which doesn’t have meat. 100% vegetarian. 100% flavor. Big King Vegetable.” Another ad read, "Flesh of my flesh," with the word "flesh," which is the same word for meat in Spanish, crossed out, and replaced with "vegetable."

When pushback against the Burger King brand went viral, the hashtag #BoicotBurgerKing began to circulate on social media, and a petition drive was launched on the CitizenGO platform.
“They make fun of the Eucharist and the death of Christ during the most sacred time for Christians. They take advantage of Holy Week to launch a campaign offensive to millions of believers in order to get publicity and make money. It’s time to respond with a boycott of Burger King,” reads the petition, which demands the removal of the ads, an apology, and the firing of a top executive.
"Money is the only thing these companies understand and only with a boycott will they begin to respect Christians and Jesus Christ as they deserve," the text adds.
As of Monday, April 18, the petition had garnered more than 22,000 signatures.
CitizenGO said that Burger King must get "such a response to its campaign that they never consider producing such an ad again," because "there is nothing that a company fears more than citizens mobilizing against it."

  • I believe them that they did not intend to offend anyone.  Why would you offend the very demographic you're appealing to with these ads?  They thought they were being cute and would get the attention of Catholics who don't eat meat during Lent, and make some extra money.  You've had Jews make what (if done by others) would be anti-Semitic commericials (like with Hebrew National hot dogs), poking fun at themselves to make a few extra bucks.
