Going to mass in Portugal was difficult also. The government was ruled by a masonic revolutionary junta who had made the Church semi-illegal.
Did they ever forbid public worship like what happened in Mexico during the Cristiada?

It is kind of hard to have public Catholic worship when most of the bishops and priests are in jail.

There was a masonic revolution there also. The local official who kidnapped the children was also a terrorist. He died while making a bomb to blow someone/something up.
