Sure- what are they really about ?
Well, it was started with great intentions. In 1882, a parish priest realized that his parishioners were regularly denied access to adequate employment and insurance because of anti-Catholic sentiment. This anti-sentiment was multiplied against immigrant Catholics. Do a Google search for anti-Catholic riots in America and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Over time, the K of C has become one of the three best insurance programs in the country. It annually receives the highest grades from Standard and Poors and A.M. Best. It also gives a bunch to charity and does a bunch of volunteer work.
My problem with the K of C is that it is all about V2. They LOVE V2 and they loved JPII. And the changes to the Mass has allowed them to take over the Mass, sometimes more than the most progressive NO parishes. By take over, I mean they will care more about their pageantry than the Mass itself.
I joined because I was a new Catholic and I wanted to grow in my faith. I thought having a fraternal Catholic organization would be just the thing I needed. But many of these guys don't have a clue about their faith and the K of C is just a big frat to them. I'm not trying to take away from all the men in the Order; some of them are very good men who do a lot. But the majority of the Order is, well, blah. I think Fr. McGiveny (the founder) would not be happy with the Order if he were alive today.
Like I said, committed to something and I believe in fulfilling my promises, so I will stick around for a year. After that, I'm gone.
