There is no such thing really as a Trad Catholic from a theological point of view. Whether someone is Novus Ordo, SSPX or Sede Vacantist they should really see themselves as Catholic. The Church is alive and is a product of the present as much as the past. . What constitutes "trad" is more of a cultural movement associated with the Latin Mass and Vatican 2. I almost always go to latin mass and not the Novus Ordo, but I am Catholic, not Trad Catholic. The term does have it's uses in some contexts.
Such a train wreck of a statement. So many things wrong with this…I really don’t know where to start! How often do we hear such nonsense from “Extraordinary former” types who STILL haven’t figured out that the Vatican 2 Novus Ordo religion is NOT the Catholic faith of the ages! Why SHOULD Novus Ordos see themselves as Catholic? They’re not. “the Church is alive and a product of the present as much as the past” — isn’t this modernism 101? Sounds almost verbatim like a condemned proposition in the Syllabus of Errors. “Trad” is a *cultural* movement??

Please give your scathing criticisms/refutations of this statement. I keep encountering this goofy sentiment.

(P.S. Similarly, I’m continually coming across Vatican II loving modernists, ecuмenists, hermeneutic-of-continuity types, neo-catholics, etc. calling themselves “Traditional Catholic” and arguing with a straight face that a Traditional Catholic is anyone who likes the TLM and it doesn’t mean someone who rejects Vatican II (!?) )

Please share your responses, comments, or gripes!

I don't know Admiral, whenever I encounter such people I always think - "that could be me." That could very easily be any one of us who know better were it not for the grace of God. The main difference between what we believe and what they believe, boils down to them really not wanting to know the truth. Basically, their mindset is that as long as we're all alright, then they can't be wrong.

Being a "trad" Catholic is flagging out an unwelcome discrepancy to them - and discrepancies are not part of their belief because we're all alright.

This kind of thing is often heard in Indult circles.

The fact is, Vatican II was a complete break with Tradition. After many decades, a new religion developed such that "Novus Ordo Catholics" actually believe and act differently than real Catholics. IN EVERY MEASURABLE WAY.

Therefore we must be specific when we say what we are. If you WANT someone to assume you're a Novus Catholic -- worldly, birth control using, liberal, and all that, then BY ALL MEANS say you're just Catholic.

I like to distance myself from Vatican II as much as possible, so for the sake of accuracy and truth I say I am a Traditional Catholic.

And yes, that's with a capital T. Indult types are the ones who say, "I'm traditional but not with a capital T if you know what I mean."

Yeah, I know what you mean. Which is why I go the opposite direction -- I'm Traditional Catholic with a CAPITAL T.

I am TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC first and foremost. I never sold out to the Conciliar religion. I am faithful to the Church's Tradition.

Quote from: 2 Thess 2
because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying: That all may be judged who have not believed the truth, but have consented to iniquity.

Anyone who adheres to Vatican II is not a Catholic, they are a Modernist of the Novus Ordo.
