  • You are already there saying your prayers - big commotion in the nave, lots of movement - next thing you notice is a guy in wheelchair getting pushed up the center aisle by a small entourage who looks just like pope Francis. Fantastical I know, but instructive for ourselves and others. What do you do?

If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?

  • If it's an una-cuм Mass, I wouldn't be there in the first place.

  • Confront him fiercely, then lead the congregation in prayer for his speedy death.

  • Come on now, you can't get out of it that easy. The scenario doesn't say that it is una cuм or non-una-cuм - I added that qualifier for myself. You may be at SSPV, Sanborn, CMRI, Independant, Resistance, etc. Francis just shows up out of the blue, and your priest seems to be to be allowing it, you don't know why he is there, or what he is going to say. What do you do?

I think it depends on why he is there.  Hopefully, it's because he's come to confess his sins to our priest and converted to the Catholic Faith.

  • Pope Francis would never show up at a Mass that any of us attend, so it's irrelevant.

You might as well ask what we would do if little green men from mars showed up at mass. What would the point of such a question be?

  • There is always the exorcism prayer of Pope Leo XIII, the long version that laymen are admonished not to say, but rather to leave it to a priest.  The Apostolate for Christian Action (Stephen Oraze of Fresno, CA, publisher of Divine Love) offered these back in the 1980s, but I've long since lost my copy and haven't been able to find another one.

I once offered this prayer at home (I am not a priest), when the diocesan bishop came to visit, at the moment that he was scheduled to appear, and just as he began to speak, fire alarms went off in the church.   One of the worst bishops that the US Church has ever had, pure evil.

  • Whoa, I found it!  Here it is:

    https://pblosser.blogspot.com/2009/02/giving-devil-his-due-part-ii.html

The admonition to leave it to a priest only applied to solemn exorcisms, which of course I did not perform, so it's all good.

  • To see how you view him as a human being, the possibility of his repentance, what you think your obligations are, what level you hold yourself in communion with him, stuff like that.

One could question how much of anything on this forum is relevant depending how you want to frame relevancy.

Funny that Francis thinks "little green men" might actually show up, is it not?

Okay....so what do you think that our obligations would be?

  • Just about to drop you this:

St. Michael the Archangel prayer, short and long versions

The one I posted is different.

I have a pet theory that all of these different versions of the St Michael prayer (including variations of wording in the short, most familiar one in the vernacular) may be the evil one's way of introducing confusion, so that there is no uniformity.  The Latin version of the short prayer is the one I usually say, and it never varies.

  • I'd fill a super-soaker with holy water and hammer away.  :laugh1:

Seriously, though, assuming he was doing nothing else beforehand, if he then got up to deliver the sermons, I would stand up and try to find a way to succinctly summarize the heresy (since you know you wouldn't last long and would have to get your point across quickly).

  • So, with regard to the longer St. Michael prayer ... let me ask others first before answering myself ... what is striking about this pasage here?
    Quote
These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.

  • I'd have to think about my answer, but I got a chuckle out of some of the options.  I got a good laugh out of Meg's comment, "You might as well ask what we would do if little green men from mars showed up at mass."  I also liked Lad's idea of the super-soaker; the thought of sprinkling holy water on him had already occurred to me, but I didn't think of a good way to get close enough.  :laugh1:  The comment "and your priest seems to be to be allowing it" was part of my difficulty in picturing the scenario & what I'd do, because it's hard to imagine with some Trad priests.  If the priest seemed to be allowing it, maybe I'd stay at least a while out of extreme curiosity as to why.  And in the hope that 2Vermont's conjecture might be the case.

  • I would leave at the start of his sermon and come back once it was over.
