  • Like imagine someone "leaking" and "old" video of +Williamson saying he found nothing wrong with Amoris Laetitia or whatever. If it's convincing, some people will believe it

100% ... at this time we're not QUITE there where people can't (with some effort) uncover DeepFakes, but they are getting better with each generation of AI, and there will come a time that absolutely nobody could tell them apart.  We might end up living in a surreal world where we have no idea what reality is anymore.

Problematic and worrying, but nothing new under the sun....

“Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see.”
    -E. A. Poe, 1845
“It's easy to be a naive idealist. It's easy to be a cynical realist. It's quite another thing to have no illusions and still hold the inner flame.”

Well, Poe said that in 1845.  I think it has to be amended to "Believe nothing you hear or see." (due to the AI).

Yes, of course, God has everything under His control, and He'll let them do what He wills for whatever good reason He has in mind.

    ...
    Yeah, that's about right.

In the same vein I had meant to add that it was pointed out to me once that, as far as history records, the first news reporter on earth was the serpent in the garden of Eden. (I don't recall who told me that. The AI reply to my inquiry as to the source was humorous though, "The claim that the serpent in the Garden of Eden was the first news reporter on Earth is not supported by the biblical text or mainstream scholarly interpretations.")

As useful as technology can be, it seems like the only thing that's really changed is to increase the volume of lies.
