  • I’ve been reading through this excellent new book  on infallibility by the Catholic neo-Platonist philosopher John Rist.  He discusses Pope Pius IX and the way in which Vatican 1 took place, as well as the Modernist crisis and what followed it. His opinions won’t necessarily be popular with all Trads( he argues, for example, that there was a “spirit of Vatican 1” and that it wasn’t entirely positive) I highly recommend giving it a read

  • Sounds like more of the R&R (Old Catholic) nonsense promoting the defectibility of the Catholic Magisterium.  I'll pass.

Some forms of R&R are pretty flawed, but like SVism, R&R can have different forms. Sedevacantism can ( in some of its forms) lead to very serious problems. Many sedes tend to think that the New Rites of Consecration/Ordination are invalid. If that’s the case, then the “Pope-elect”( assuming Sedeprivationism ), the Cardinals, and virtually all Bishops are just laymen. Not only would this leave the Church in a pitiful state, but it makes any solution to the Crisis almost impossible. Think about it, if Francis became a Trad tomorrow, what would the next step be? Would we have thousands and thousands of clerics re-ordained/re-consecrated?( and by whom- doubtfully valid Thuc Bishops?)

if one synthesizes Fr. Chazal’s position, Dr. Rist’s view, and Fr. Marie O.P’s study on the validity of the New Rite, I think ome comes to the most sensible view

Francis is a heretic awaiting deposition
