My children asked me if they could go see it again just to watch the scene with all the flying dishes.  :laugh1:  Boys will be boys.

I saw it this evening and thought it was just okay.  I wish Peter Jackson would tell Tolkien's story and not insist on acting as though he can do it better.

Yeah, the bit about the Morgul knife and Azog revived in a revenge bid against Thorin was a bit disconcerting, among other things.

I saw it with several family members, including an 18 year old cousin who is an even more rabid Tolkien fan than I am.  When I asked him what he thought he said, "It was an okay movie, and it even had a few characters in common with the book.

Seriously, Peter Jackson could tell the story straight in one long movie, and easily do it in two reasonable length movies.  Instead he will add a bunch of nonsense and claim he had to leave out stuff that Tolkien actually wrote becasue the movie would be too long otherwise.

So, dear Catholics, what will the pagan - the majority of the audience - take away from seeing this version of The Hobbit?
