But I would like to know if anyone on here thinks it is sinful to have a wart removed or an unattractive birthmark faded? Is it vanity to get dentures, implants, or to whiten stained teeth? Director, Are you are trying to convince a fellow Catholic, or another other person, against getting a tattoo? You got some pretty good answers to your questions, so why not say thank you, instead of playing the self-righteous.

You didn't answer my polite question, BTW!

I was rethinking my post to you in response to your Tattoos and piercings piece. Probably in view of this

This thread was started to find out if anyone knew of what the church teachings were on the markings of tattoo s and along that line what it teaches on the piercing of the body , ear piercing , in particular, which has been going on for Centuries.

It was related by one responder that either one is against Church teaching, backed up by Scripture.

The question was asked , If anyone knew what the Church is teaching today, and if anyone had approached their Priest or Bishop , on the subject, and if so, what was their response , reasoning , hopefully backed by Church Doctrine.

To that point I hope we all learned that it is a pagan culture, and un Catholic.

Noting that this thread has almost a 1000 views, it appears to be of interest to many concerned Catholic s and others.

Unfortunately there are some here who take this as some kind of comedy satire, and might have in mind to rail this important subject.

The question s have still not be fully answered, as far as I am concerned, and that is "What is the Catholic teaching on the subject today from the clergy of the three promenate Traditional Groups , SSPX, SSPV, CMRI.

I ask for those who belong to one of these Groups , to ask the Tuff questions and respond back to this thread, for all our benefit s .

After all is it not the purpose of this Form , to know and better understand the Catholic Faith. ?

I bring this forward for those who have not followed this from the beginning.

Please do not dwell on crucifying the originator, as the liberals and modernists will do when confronted with the truth.

These are also my views as to what the Catholic Church teaches on the subject as they are backed by Scripture.

If however you disagree, please present your views , backed by Catholic Doctrine or Docuмentation, for us all to see.

Tattoos and piercings

Tattooing and piercing is regarded in Sacred Scripture as a pagan practice:

Leviticus 19:28: "You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor shall you make in yourselves any figures or marks: I am the Lord"

It should be considered as mutilation of the body in contravention of the Fifth Commandment. The fact that the tattoo may be of a religious object does not justify the practice. Exhibitionism is intrinsically un-Catholic, falling short of the virtue of humility. Would the Lord Jesus Christ have had a tattoo? The Blessed Virgin Mary? Of course not. How do we know? Because they would both have perfectly kept the law in all its points, including "nor shall you make in yourselves any figures or marks".

There is another argument against the practice, which relates to the Fifth Commandment, which forbids unnecessary harming of one's body, the Temple of the Holy Ghost, as St. Paul calls it. Catholic moral theology teaches that by the Principle of Totality, a person is not permitted to authorize the mutilation of his own body except for the benefit of the whole body by the principle of totality. Mutilation of the body can be justified only on the supposition that it is necessary or useful toward obtaining some just physical benefit (as an amputation of a diseased leg to prevent the spread of gangrene).

The practice of tattooing often involves an unnecessary medical risk of acquiring the dangerous virus Hepatitis C. This virus, once acquired through such practices as tattooing, can erupt virulently, or it can lie dormant in the body for twenty or more years after the tattooing incident. Hepatitis can destroy the liver and thus weaken the body until it dies in agony.

You should not get a tattoo or piercing. The Bible is pretty clear on the matter:

Leviticus 19:28: “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh, for the dead, neither shall you make in yourselves any figures or marks: I am the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 3:16-17: "Know you not, that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? But if any man violate the temple of God, him shall God destroy. For the temple of God is holy, which you are."

If trad Catholics can't even convince their children not to get tattoos or have piercings all over their bodies then they can't convince them to do anything.

And if we have liberals defending these practices as being legitimate we have people who wish to destroy Catholic Tradition among us.
