The action was made in collaboration with Christ The Redeemer Sanctuary, which promoted a charitable act in reference to the World Day of The Poor, instituted by Pope Francis on the date of November 19th.
Father Omar, the sanctuary's Rector, was begged by Taylor Swift fans, and got personally involved in the project.
The real issue I suppose is whether or not it's sacrilegious for advertisements, messages, or other things to be posted on or overlayed on top of religious statues, buildings, items, etc in ways that don't damage or otherwise alter the statue/building/etc.
To be clear, it seems unavoidable to conclude that it does indeed profane the sacred, but one could then ask: does the charity behind the "allowance" of such excuse it or make it ok? Or is that reasoning too close to ends-justifying-means reasoning?
