The film's producer, Peter Jackson, is an atheist, and it appears that the movie has sorcery and witchcraft in it.

It seems like another typical Hollywood production. I'll have to pass on it.

Sure, it has some wizards doing some wizard stuff, but in Tolkien and Jackson, those wizards are not men, but higher beings who have those natural abilities, emissaries of those who protect Middle-Earth; nobody can learn those innate abilities of the wizards (unlike Harry Potter), and those that do, like the Nazgul in the Lord of the Rings, Tolkien clearly depicts as evil.  Tolkien's world is not meant to mirror the real world. Although I must admit Hollywood has been influenced on that idea of men doing sorcery, due to Dungeons and Dragons, subverting Tolkien. I don't believe Tolkien ever approved of sorcery or the such, being a devout Roman Catholic; Tolkien's devotedness to the Traditional Latin Mass was clearly demonstrated when he was a Novus Ordo; he bowed and then promptly left. His works have definite Catholic themes.

Oops. That should read, "When Tolkien went to the Novus Ordo Mass, he was disgusted with it and bowed before going out of the church."

For we happy few who know Tolkien's works too well, no film adaptation will ever replace the imagination and the purity of the text. From an audio perspective, there have been produced two dramatized versions, and the unabridged recording.
Peter Jackson is out for a major cash grab and to make more cinematic history with his overblown treatment of the material. Jackson is like unto Gollum, and will end up the same way, give or take an orc or two. :gandalf:
