As for smoking "pot" I had a huge argument with an SSPX priest one time who insisted smoking one joint was a mortal sin, and that is what they tell the students at St Marys.  Now, a grave act of disobedience would be a mortal sin.  If your parents don't want you even smoking cigs then by all means...
But for a joint to be a mortal sin it would either have to be
A) so strong as to make you lose your reason... ie getting drunk or stoned or whatever.
B) an occasion of sin... you just can't smoke one must go through ten...

The average joint available in my day fulfilled neither of these conditions...

Finally, I am by no means advocating smoking joints.  :fryingpan:

(Some of those drinks at McDonalds probably have more punch than a joint did in my day.  :jumping2:)
Why does one smoke pot? What does Marijuana do to one's brain function? I for one know for a fact that smoking a certain amount of pot makes one lose their reason. It transports one to another world, so to speak. If you are not smoking pot to get high and escape reality, then what other reason are you doing so for?
It is a mortal sin. I would say the priest knows more than you. Marijuana is a gate way to the demonic.

Marijuana can and has been greatly abused. But to say that marijuana is a gateway to the demonic is a little over the top.

To say that its not a mortal sin and not  a gateway to the demonic is ridiculous.  You may laugh, say I'm crazy, but I had demonic experience with it. And when people say that its not dangerous I think "how ridiculous." Because I am still living with that experience that forever changed my life. That was 15 years ago. I can hear them now, "it doesn't happen to everyone and you exaggerate". Whatever. You have no idea how evil it is. 
It amazing what some Traditional Catholics think!

Marijuana in and of itself is not the gateway to the demonic, it is the person who opens the gate.  MJ has a long history of medical use including lower blood pressure and curing cancer.  It is no more "dangerous" than drinking alcohol.  It alters the mind just like alcohol.  It is a substance which can be used or abused, just like alcohol.  It can addle the brain just like alcohol.  Unlike alcohol God made it in a form that needs no processing.

I am against the use for reasons of those who drive, using equipment.  You can measure pot, if one is pulled over.  Call it DUI, but still can not be measured.
