The above video talks about the dangers of certain types of music that are dangers towards the soul.
If you listen to the Beetles or Ac/dc,Beyoncé you are giving honor to the devil.
Many traditional Catholic seminarians struggle with the evils of secular music.

Its funny that there are some Traditional Catholics who try to justify listening to rock music. Several years ago, I was riding to Mass with some "Trad Caths" who were listening to a song by a band called Godsmack, a band made up of wickens. Let's just say I was a little confused and appalled. Its also funny how many Trad Caths there are that think smoking pot is okay.

Music has been all downhill since Giovani Palestrina strolled into the Vatican...
Listen to and learn Gregorian Chant.
As for smoking "pot" I had a huge argument with an SSPX priest one time who insisted smoking one joint was a mortal sin, and that is what they tell the students at St Marys. Now, a grave act of disobedience would be a mortal sin. If your parents don't want you even smoking cigs then by all means...
But for a joint to be a mortal sin it would either have to be
A) so strong as to make you lose your reason... ie getting drunk or stoned or whatever.
B) an occasion of sin... you just can't smoke one must go through ten...
The average joint available in my day fulfilled neither of these conditions...
Finally, I am by no means advocating smoking joints. :fryingpan:
Heck, I don't even drink coffee
(Some of those drinks at McDonalds probably have more punch than a joint did in my day. :jumping2:)

If you like super concentrated coffee, then try yaupon tea!
The local Natives used to make a tea from the leaves (I shall not specify how here) and would drink it. It is so strong it can/will make one defecate and vomit. The Natives would be so jacked on caffeine that they would be screaming and smacking their drums and have a contest to see who could run around the bonfire the longest. The last man standing was the winner!
It was such a ruckus that it could be heard several miles away. All the settlers would be anxiously holding their guns and hidding in their houses, thinking the Indians were on the War Path!
And some think their coffee isn't strong enough...
Please note: This post is off topic!

Why does one smoke pot? What does Marijuana do to one's brain function? I for one know for a fact that smoking a certain amount of pot makes one lose their reason. It transports one to another world, so to speak. If you are not smoking pot to get high and escape reality, then what other reason are you doing so for?
It is a mortal sin. I would say the priest knows more than you. Marijuana is a gate way to the demonic.

Marijuana can and has been greatly abused. But to say that marijuana is a gateway to the demonic is a little over the top.
what other reason are you doing so for?
It can be used as a medicine. http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/features/medical-marijuana-uses
To say its use is a mortal sin is ridiculous. You sound like one of those protestant wowsers, who say similar things about alcohol.

To say that its not a mortal sin and not a gateway to the demonic is ridiculous. You may laugh, say I'm crazy, but I had demonic experience with it. And when people say that its not dangerous I think "how ridiculous." Because I am still living with that experience that forever changed my life. That was 15 years ago. I can hear them now, "it doesn't happen to everyone and you exaggerate". Whatever. You have no idea how evil it is.
It amazing what some Traditional Catholics think!

Marijuana in and of itself is not the gateway to the demonic, it is the person who opens the gate. MJ has a long history of medical use including lower blood pressure and curing cancer. It is no more "dangerous" than drinking alcohol. It alters the mind just like alcohol. It is a substance which can be used or abused, just like alcohol. It can addle the brain just like alcohol. Unlike alcohol God made it in a form that needs no processing.

I am against the use for reasons of those who drive, using equipment. You can measure pot, if one is pulled over. Call it DUI, but still can not be measured.
-
Can Not be measured, like alcohol.

I am sorry for your bad experience.
.
I don't say it is never a dangerous thing. For fourteen years we lived in a location where we were alienated because we did not use marijuana, so I do know something about its dangers and its effects. I am not naive about these things. And I don't wear the label Traditional Catholic.
.
Some medications have drastic effects too, so if your doctor puts you on antidepressants and you take them you are committing a mortal sin? Maybe you are unwise to follow doctor's prescriptions, but do you sin by taking them. For some people anti-depressants could be a gateway to demonic influences.
.
It may well be a mortal sin for you if you were to use it, because you now have the knowledge of how it affects you. But to make a general rule for all...
.
So how much did you have for how long did you take it and what other influences were there?

This has been discussed ad infinitum in the past. The bottom line is that no Church Authority has ever been cited condemning MJ use.
The relegating to the CI 'Index' of the MJ smoking emoticon( as well as the wine glass) does not constitute the authority of a Papal Bull( or encyclical) by a true Pontiff....

Blood/breath levels cannot be measured, but driving while impaired doesn't rely on blood/breath tests. You can be impaired on prescription meds too. Police can do a field test for impairment. Any substance must be used responsibly. I think education is the key. We never used to consider scripts as "impairing", but now with education people realize they can be impaired on meds their own doc prescribes.
Although I don't have any stats to back me up, I suspect we had a huge problem with public impairment after prohibition was repealed. Finally through education (most) people have learned not to drink and drive. I suspect the same will be true with MJ. Don't smoke and drive.
I don't think it is the MJ that is the problem, but people's lack of responsibility when using it. I keep coming back to the alcohol analogy because I think it is the closest there is. Use responsibly.
It's not that I think MJ is a good thing, I don't. But neither do I think drinking or smoking are good things. However, people are going to use recreational substances so let's just hold them accountable for their actions if they cross the line legally (not just demonizing them for using).
I realize I'm probably the lone voice on this board to defend the responsible use of MJ, but for me it all comes down to personal accountability for one's actions.

Many traditional Catholic seminarians struggle with the evils of secular music.
The subject of rock music is misunderstood by many. Rock is just one of hundreds of genres of music, many of which can be dangerous if specific things are present. The problem is not just limited to rock music. Generally speaking, if any genre of music contains one of the following characteristics, it should be avoided:
1. Indecent or suggestive lyrics
2. If it arouses inappropriate emotions
3. If listening to it may scandalize others around you
If music doesn't contain these characteristics, it is generally safe, and that includes music that may be considered "rock" (i.e. music with drums and electric guitar)
An example of possible scandal might be listening to songs from Billy Joel - he has been known to make fun of Catholics in his songs, and also to mention mortal sins in them, but at the same time he also has some relatively nice music. Someone who knows about his bad music might be scandalized at seeing you listening to it, thinking you might agree with his views against Catholicism. While someone else who knows nothing about Billy Joel, who sees you listening to one of his nicer songs would not be scandalized. Something you would need to judge for yourself.
