    So...  We know "Dios te salve, Maria" was approved by the Church.  We just have to understand the translation in the light of the teachings of the Church.  
    Interesting topic at any rate.  I wonder if the professor I knew knows any more about it.  I think he may have taught Spanish History too. 😊

    Yes, it's a greeting. Anyone who's watched a few old sword-and-sandal movies would know this. I've known priests to greet each other with a 'salve'.
