A 4.8 earthquake struck this morning, April 5, 2024, in Tewksbury, NJ. It was felt as far out as parts of New England, Long Island, all five boroughs of NYC, parts of DE and MD. I’m too far north, but my nephew called to say his office on Long Island was shaking enough for a monitor screen on his desk to nearly topple. He caught it and his client was a bit “shaken.” (Pun intended.)
My sister had a day off and slept through it. My younger nephew was working with his father, driving on the BQE on the way to a fix a steam leak in Brooklyn. They didn’t notice anything, either, probably because the BQE is in such horrid condition, s person would only notice if suddenly, they got a smooth ride instead of the usual bone rattling, vehicle destroying adventure. (Road’s been this way for decades, my Dad used to complain about it back in the early 1960’s when he was commuting from Queens to Lakehurst.)
Trads in PA, VA, CT, or NJ, did you notice anything? 4.8 at the epicenter is certainly something one would feel. The strongest I’ve been in was 5.0 in St. Lawrence Co., NY in the 1980’s. I was about three miles from the epicenter.
