I ventured into the Eagle a few times around the same years. If I remember correctly, it was in the seedy meat market district, and the sessions were in the backroom. One good thing about that bar from what I remember was that they didn't look down on "the bridge and tunnel people" like was often the case in the jazz venues. At the time I was more interested in punk and jazz, but i did own a few Chieftains' albums that I'd put on from time to time. I became more interested in the mid 90s. I'm sorry now that I didn't get to see live bands like the Chieftains, The Bothy Band and De Dannan to name a few. I was around my Waterford born grandmother almost every day until she passed (+RIP+) when I was 16, and she would sing silly Irish songs from her youth to entertain us. I never made it to Yonkers, but I went to many a soda shop in The Bronx to shoot pool and socialize. It was a long trip from the Borough of Churches.
The bodhrán is an interesting instrument and probably often taken for granted unless the player is obnoxiously looking for attention.
