Did I commit mortal sin?
« on: April 01, 2023, 06:45:51 AM »
I know this is better asked to my confessor but I don't have the option of going to confession before Palm Sunday Mass. I tend to be very scrupulous so I would like the seasoned opinions of the veterans here.

So I was learning about the distinctions of the sin of sodomy and related unnatural vices and came across a word I did not understand. Finding it on Wikipedia the page had images of the sɛҳuąƖ act. Now after seeing this I closed the page. After a short time vain curiosity got the better of me, I wanted to read the article to see what it said. I rationalized to myself that it would at most be a venial sin and went back on the page. Though I used my right hand to cover the right side of my screen to block the images, however when scrolling down there was a 3rd image which I managed to see. My right hand was a bit unsteady and instead of focusing myself to keep the image out of sight I had a quick glance at the image. I did not look at it long (probs less than a second) and did not see the 'parts' of it. I finished reading the page and felt regret.

I should not have put myself at the occasion of sin and I should not have used 'venial at worst' as an excuse to do so. Giving in to curiosity for vain knowledge was foolish. Did I commit a mortal sin? A venial sin? Or am I just being overly scrupulous and did not sin at all? I appreciate your advice.

Why learn about unholy acts.  Yes, it is a mortal sin because you have to protect your eyes from seeing things that are unholy.

But I can guarantee that whoever looks with lust at a woman (or man)has already committed adultery in his heart.

Sodomy

Then the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry which has come to me.” (Gn 18:20-21) The inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah were guilty of ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ activity. So far gone were they in this vice that the men of the town would not even accept heterosɛҳuąƖ license with Lot’s daughters, both virgins, as a means of sating their lust (see 19:8-9
