What a funny and clever Russian idiom!
Apparently it means someone who is unpredictable, who changes direction often, mercurial. That definitely describes Trump.
The expression was applied to Trump in the context of his recent talk about giving Ukraine Tomahawk missiles to strike deep into Russia -- then totally doing a 180.
The expression was used within the past 2 days by a Belorussian who runs the "Military Summary" youtube channel, basically a Russian.
Whatever other channel(s) you want to watch to follow the Russia-Ukraine war (which I do recommend -- if you follow ANY news, this is about the most important by far), I recommend you follow his channel, if only to learn how to PROPERLY pronounce the various city names.
Speaking of accents, It's funny how much I hate the Indian accent, but I love hearing a Russian accent. Why is that? Both countries are, on paper, as unrelated to me and foreign as you can get. There's something more interesting and "better" about Russian attitude and culture, compared to Indian. Maybe that's it.
Maybe it's because I grew up at a Trad chapel with a Slavic (Polish) priest? I don't know.
Anyhow, Military Summary does a GREAT job, over and above his Russian pronunciation. He is very objective and doesn't BS around. He tells it like it is. Sometimes he gets a little excited (or discouraged) depending on the news, and I suspect he's rooting for the Russians, but he's not detached from reality or in la-la land like many in the pro-Ukrainian camp. I've been watching him a while and there's a reason for that -- he hasn't been proven wrong or massively full of crap, like so many other channels. He's actually skeptical of Russian Ministry of Defense and stuff like that. He's down to earth and reliable in his analysis.
He starts and ends every video with a zoomed out Google Earth (globe) -- but I overlook this, because his analysis and reporting are so good. hahaha
