I hope you are right, Vandaler.  I was reading about the proposed withdrawal from Iraq this morning, and I wish...  I'm afraid, though, that I have come to expect nothing better than talk out of politicians.  One good thing may have come of all of this and that is that the Bush regime may well be finished politically in this country.  With his unpopularity polls I doubt they could convincingly rig another election.  The bad thing is that if Hilary runs she may get it solely because she's Democrat.  God have mercy on us if that happens.

We also still face the North American Union, and that is bi-partisan.  Frankly, I think our goose is still cooked.

Note that I said nothing about a withdrawal.  I think a re-deployment of the force within Iraq and a re-definition of the mission is more likely.

Pardon me, Vandaler, but what the ____good would that do??

I don't have much time to chat so briefly.

The current mission is... to create the security conditions needed for the current governement to function.  This by all evidence is not working.

Leaving Iraq entirely would let Iran take advantage of the vacuum and become to much of a power broker in the region.

A compromise would be to redefine the US mission, take them out of harms way.  Let the Iraq's settle their differences or duke it out.  The American's presence would be to prevent Iran from taking to much of an advantage.  That is what I expect from the Baker Commision.  Also, it will include the proposition to engage Iran diplomatically.

It will come down to the US wanting to tie the nuclear issue to those talks... while the Iranians, in the driver seat right now, will want to keep the nuclear file seperate.

He can't have it both ways, you know.  He can't say he's there to ensure peace and a stable gov't in Iraq and stand back while they duke it out.

Obviously... I leave that to the White House spindoctors to come up with a new language.  That is no worry.

Well, you're up to speed with my expectations as it stands today, time to observe... Bush met this morning with Baker and Hamilton, the full report will be published in December.

It's time to be very attentive to any kind of change in language. This is one of those periods where every word are carefully scripted.

  • And what of the large construction projects in Iraq?  The big new palace sized embassy and a very large air base?

I doubt the US will abandone such projects.

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
    You just might find
    You get what you need

Made no sense to me.  No WONDER Vandaler doesn't get it.  We don't even speak the same language!

    Geeze,

Those lyrics are inspired by Buddhist philosophy and advocates that desire causes suffering. (a theme vastly reflected in Saints writing)

That American air bases and a pro-American governement in Iraq is a desired outcome but possibly not worth the suffering.

That in the end, it might need to settle for less of what it wants, and more of what it needs.  Youth returning home with a less then perfect but workable outcome in Iraq.

I'll dumb it down a few notch next time.

Thanks Gladius, I'm fine thanks... still boxing the same issues as you can see.  It's my undesired affliction that I can't get rid of.  :smirk:

    Hope your well to.

  • Your assigning human defects to governement is inadequate. Governement don't have personalities.  At the very best, you can claim that governement will take as much that it can get away with.

In the case of this administration, it as gone past that point thanks to democracy you despise so much.
