Yes. This. We can't control what they do. We have to focus on governing our local community as best we can manage.
Agreed, as long as Putin doesn't nuke us.
And even if he does? From a purely selfish standpoint, for my family and me, I really don't care, as long as we can all save our souls. My mother is 91 and, ever since my father died, she would be delighted to go. Aside from the love of my son (she could probably more or less take or leave me), she cares nothing about living. My son is an intelligent, clean-living, white, blond-haired, blue-eyed, conservative Christian male, so he has a lot of strikes against him in his future in this country. (If we all live until he is 16, I am going to get his EU citizenship certified, so he does not have to stay in this country if he doesn't want to.) As for me, I live on a small pension (and, later this year, Social Security) and 401(k), let's just say my health is never going to improve, and aside from some traveling I'd like to do, I'm pretty much done. It would be nice to live a long life, but if it doesn't happen, I'm not worried about it. There is much to be said for Ignatian detachment.
