Russia staffs Mediterranean fleet. Turkey weighs payback for Syrian bombings

DEBKAfile Special Report May 12, 2013, 7:19 PM (IDT)

    Russian nuclear submarine

Russian Navy Admiral Viktor Chirkov said Sunday, May 12, that the process is underway for creating a permanent staff to run Russian fleet operations in the Mediterranean Sea.  Speaking at Sevastopol, the Black Sea fleet’s home port, Adm. Chirkov said a staff of 20 officers was already in place. And the Mediterranean deployment would comprise five to six warships and their service vessels as well possibly as nuclear submarines which, say our military sources, are armed with nuclear ballistic missiles.

debkafile’s military sources: The new permanent deployment is the next Russian step for safeguarding Bashar Assad’s regime in Damascus and deterring military attacks on his Hizballah allies and Iranian interests in their three-way bloc.
Moscow is also announcing loud and clear that Russia is finally restoring its military presence to the Middle East in 2013 after the last Soviet squadron exited the Mediterranean in 1992.

The Russian naval step came 24 hours after two car bombs reduced to rubble the center of the Turkish town of Reyhanli near the Syrian border, killing 46 people and injuring scores. Turkish ministers at the scene Sunday openly blamed Syrian military intelligence for the attack’s planning and execution.

This raised concerns in Moscow that Ankara was preparing to deliver a serious reprisal, possibly in the form of an aerial or missile assault, on Syrian military targets.

Russian tacticians reckoned that, after Israel’s two air strikes against Assad regime targets, the Tayyip Erdogan’s government could hardly avoid direct action without appearing to be failing in courage in the eyes of the Turkish public.

Some action is doubly pressing as Prime Minister Erdogan prepares to travel to Washington to meet President Barack Obama on May 16 and present him with evidence that Assad has used chemical weapons in his war on Syrian rebels.

The Reyhanli bombings and Turkey’s potential retaliation sent a fresh wave of alarm across the Syrian neighborhood. Once again, Israeli Air Force warplanes thundered Sunday across South Lebanon and over Hizballah strongholds in the eastern Beqaa Valley near the Syrian border.
Given all these circuмstances, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s chances are virtually nil of getting anywhere in his trip to the Black Sea resort of Sochi to persuade President Vladimir Putin to hold back advanced S-300 anti-air missiles from Syria. He can expect to find the Russian president driving full speed for arms deals - not just with Syria, but also with Iraq, Yemen and Sudan.

Putin clearly regards Obama’s decision to keep the US clear of military involvement in the Syrian conflict as an open gateway for a Russian military comeback to the Middle East after a 21-year absence, armed with a cornucopia of weapons for winning clients. For now, there is no stopping him, not even if Turkey or Israel were to embark themselves on military intervention.

  • We may be closure to WW3, but the global coastal event may preempt their
    plans.

  • Remember that DEBKA is an Israeli source.

You could instead say Russia is preventing greater carnage.

All this looks like Israel/US have made a few miscalculations already and are not having as easy a time of things as they had expected.

Hope you're right about Russia's navy adding stability to the region.

Your comment reminds me of another fαℓѕє fℓαg prediction: That Israel would nuke a US Naval ship in the Mediterranean and blame it on the Iranians.

In 1967, the Israeli air force attacked the USS Liberty during the Israeli war and tried to blame it on Egypt.  LBJ covered the incident up.

The only reason there hasn't been a full scale invasion of Syria is Russia and China. However they are trying fαℓѕє fℓαg after fαℓѕє fℓαg but it's not as easy to do this with the free flow of information that exists today. Even 9/11 was badly done and a lot of resources have been expended since then to cover up or at least muddy the story.

Makes one wonder how much longer the internet is going to remain relatively open.

They're cutting it down already, see their battle against the Pirate Bay which is just a base for censoring any "unwanted" website.
The black lists which are active today in many countries' Internet Service Providers, to hinder people nationwide and on the low-level to access certain websites, can easily be expanded per government mouse-click.

  • Back on topic: Now that the Russians for the first time have deployed submarines next to their warships in the Mediterranean Sea (not only the not so trustworthy "Debka" reported it, by the way), I think we're one step closer to what Alois Irlmaier visioned:

    Quote
Everything calls peace, Schalom! Then it will occur - a new Middle East war suddenly flames up, big naval forces are facing hostiley in the Mediterranean - the situation is strained. But the actual firing spark is set on fire in the Balkan: I see a "large one" falling, a bloody dagger lies beside him - then impact is on impact. ...

Let's also remember Irlmaier's famous timetable from the early 1950's :
    Quote
    1. First there's an economic vitality, like never before.
    2. A lapse of faith follows, like never before.
    3. Then a corruption of morals, like never before.
    4. Then a huge number of strangers flood the country.
    5. There's massive inflation. Money loses its value increasingly.
    6. Soon follows the revolution.

    7. Then overnight the Russians raid the West.

(... meaning World War III which would be ended by the Three Dark Days)

    Irlmaier's original German words were:
    1. Zuerst kommt ein Wohlstand wie noch nie!

I think we're between step 5 and 6 now, and in half of Europe the revolution is already sparking. As soon as the Euro currency falls, pure chaos and revolution will take place, being a "good" base for WW3. And in case it happens, it will be a the logical result aka punishment for our apostate nations.

But, what other solutions for an apostate world are there? After step 7 everything will be reset, and we Catholics who survive the upcoming events can re-build Catholic societies. A good perspective I think.

  • Incredulous' story is also confirmed by Russian News Agencies (like Ria Novosti). Also Western, mainly Zionistic media started to report in a "concerned" way about the Russian warships entering the Mediterranean Sea now. I think the Western media tried to avoid that topic until now, but since the fleets get into position, it's not so easy anymore. Looks like an Irlmaier film to me.

    Ria Novotsti :

Russian Pacific Fleet Warships Enter Mediterranean

    16 May 2013

VLADIVOSTOK, May 16 (RIA Novosti) - A group of warships from Russia’s Pacific Fleet entered the Mediterranean waters for the first time in decades, a fleet spokesman said on Thursday

“The task force has successfully passed through the Suez Channel and entered the Mediterranean. It is the first time in decades that Pacific Fleet warships enter this region,” Capt. First Rank Roman Martov said.

The vessels are now en route to Cyprus and are scheduled to make a port call in Limassol.

The group, including the destroyer Admiral Panteleyev, the amphibious warfare ships Peresvet and Admiral Nevelskoi, the tanker Pechenga and the salvage/rescue tug Fotiy Krylov left the port of Vladivostok on March 19 to join Russia’s Mediterranean task force.

The task force currently includes the large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk, the frigate Yaroslav Mudry, the salvage/rescue tugs Altai and SB-921 and the tanker Lena from the Northern and Baltic Fleets, as well as the Ropucha-II Class landing ship Azov from the Black Sea Fleet.

The task force may be enlarged to include nuclear submarines, Navy Commander Admiral Viktor Chirkov said last Sunday.

The Defense Ministry said in April Russia has begun setting up a naval task force in the Mediterranean, sending several warships from the Pacific Fleet to the region. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in March a permanent naval task force in the Mediterranean was needed to defend Russia’s interests in the region.

A senior Defense Ministry official said the Mediterranean task force's command and control agencies will be based either in Novorossiysk, Russia, or in Sevastopol, Ukraine.

Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, head of the parliamentary defense committee, previously told RIA Novosti that the Mediterranean task force should be comprised of 10 warships and support vessels as part of several tactical groups tasked with attack, antisubmarine warfare and minesweeping.

The Soviet Union maintained its 5th Mediterranean Squadron from 1967 until 1992. It was formed to counter the US Navy's 6th Fleet during the Cold War, and consisted of 30-50 warships and auxiliary vessels.
