Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was taken to the 12th Imam Hospital in Iran after falling ill sometime between Dec. 3-4.  Unconfirmed.

Perhaps the admin can fix the mispelling of Khamenei in the title.

Isn't the Ayatolla the REAL power in Iran?  President Amedinejad is just a figurehead.

I wonder what'll happen to Iran.

Yes, if the above is true, and the illnnes serious, it's a huge news and the resulting struggle to determine his successor of capital importance in the current context.

There is increasing word that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be removed from office in 2007.

Any further word? I did not noticed the usual running on by news manequins or speculations. Vandaler, am I correct in thinking this would have more of an effect on things over there then they were expecting with Sadam. They usually go wild when something like this happens.

No further news.

The news on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is from Micheal Ledeen of the American Enterprise Institute.  He seem to have access to information that no one else has.  It's still unconfirmed and news organisation are staying away from it.

On President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's, it's just political fiction to say that he will leave in 2007, based both on the declining health (or death) of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and also, the terrible beating Ahmadinejad took in last december election.  Is political star is whining.

Edit: The news on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei being dead is now being put in doubt by those I hold in the highest esteem.
