As it says in Revelation:

Unless those days be shortened, no flesh would be spared, but those days will be shortened for the sake of the elect.

Given enough time, it would come to that, but the war will happen first. Things cannot continue as they are much longer. I expect the prophesies of WWIII and the physical chastisement to happen either next year, or 2021 at the latest. I think the only reason it hasn't happened yet is that there are a couple things that have to wrap-up first.

The SSPX has not quite finished decaying yet, the same with the counciliar church. When they're fully collapsed, that will be the spiritual tipping point the will bring it on. I get the impression that each and every kind of evil will occur; so that when it's over, no form of evil and heresy will escape condemnation. Bad for us - great for the 6th age.
