One thing I simply don't understand.  Why are all these systems connected through the internet?  There are so many things that run through the internet these days that I just can't see any real advantage for.

That line could be the key to the OP article, they are setting up Russia as the cause of the cувєr attacks (with an "s" because there will be other attacks to follow). The pipeline shutdowns will be the new 911 to spend billions (put billions in the pockets of the military industrial complex)  in "defeating the new enemy".
