I am a hypervigilent person. I learned early to keep my eye on the enemy. So I used to listen to the talking heads to see what the enemy was up to. It is my contention that they let us know what they are doing for two reasons. To accustom us and to put a good spin on it so we won't be alarmed. They don't want any knee jerks.

Knowing this I figured I could take it all without falling for their propaganda. What I finally concluded was that I couldn't tell the difference between truth and fiction. So I quit listening. I have known people so creative at evil that I stood aghast and speechless. I could never have thought of the things they thought of. Heck, I can't even think up good as well as they thought up evil. I have to conclude that I am just not in the same class as they are.

They'll have to come get me when I'm not looking. But those of you who can keep up with them, go for it. Let us know what you learned.

You have learned well. I have had some experience with the devil ( not just pundits, but THE devil ) in my time. So let me tell you, when the devil asks you to play chess, there is only one way to win -- knock over the board and walk away.

The devil himself appeared to me in order to make me think I was some kind of angelic prophetic figure. And do you know why it was believable? Because the devil appeared to me! If the devil shows himself to me, and even acts afraid of me, I must be important, right? Ha ha ha...

This is what you don't do --

He works on you in a way that will make you think you're winning when you're really losing. It's the oldest trick in the book -- flattery. Out of pride, we think we can't be fooled, we think that we are defeating the devil. But then you realize it is not the devil but YOUR OWN PRIDE that is the enemy, and that the devil is only working on that.

The devil cannot fool anyone who doesn't want to be fooled. In a sense he is an agent of God because he tests us. I'm not saying he's not genuinely evil, he is, but at the same time God has turned this evil to a purpose. The devil thought he was going to overpower God and instead he became just another part of His plan.

His main consolation is that he has the power to trick humans and make them into fools just like he is. He is not a fool in terms of his intellectual capacity, mind you, only in how he USED this great intellectual capacity. Likewise, humans are foolish when they honor their own minds and can't admit how feeble and blind they are compared to God. Only humility and trust in God and the Church, a knowledge of our own insufficency, can stop us from being fooled. That is the irony. If you admit you're weak, you are safe. If you think you are brilliant, you are doomed.

So when you watch the talking heads you think you are sifting the wheat from the chaff, but meanwhile the chaff has installed itself in your head and is fermenting without your knowledge. Probably the best way to keep your head clear is to get into a medieval mindset. Read a lot of history and adapt yourself to how the Catholics used to think. See everything through the lens of the Church.

There is a point you can get to when you can almost drink intellectual poison without being harmed, because your Catholic sense is so strong -- but who is to say when they have reached that point? Traditionally it is the clergy, in particular the higher clergy, who would drink the poison for us, and then tell us what it was. Now we don't have that -- the VII "clergy," sometimes even the trad clergy, are regurgitating poison. This throws you back on yourself and guess what that leads to once again? Yep -- pride! The shepherd has been struck, and the sheep are scattered.

These are not easy times. I just try to keep flexible and to be ready to admit mistakes and to listen to others.

In total agreement. But I think, satan has his hour and we are living in it. But God has His eternity. Don't lose your love. Jesus said the man who held out till the end, the same shall be saved.

I just realized this thread is called "In defense of the talking heads." But in your post, you do not defend them, you say you are going to stay away from them. That is what I was praising.

Then today you said in another thread, in reference to the talking heads --

So at one moment you tell people to keep watching them, then at another you say you are going to stop watching them... I think there is some confusion here.

I have an older friend who you remind me of. He is a fierce American patriot yet at the same time, deep down, he acknowledges the truth of what I'm saying about America. He also watches Glenn Beck.

Sometimes it sounds like his mind is melting. That is because he is caught between two masters -- he wants to run back to his comforting illusions about America, yet at the same time he wants the truth. So he tries to make his patriotism fit with the truth. But sadly, it just doesn't, and he gets caught in all kinds of contradictions. In a way, you are both serving two gods, or more accurately, a false god named America and the true God of the Catholic Church.

I think this is a result of growing up in a very patriotic time, being part of the so-called "Greatest Generation." There is the pride -- "Greatest Generation," America is the greatest country, we are the heroes and everyone else is a foul nαzι or communist, we are Superman and all about truth and justice... It's propaganda, Trinity. We just had more subtle and more clever propaganda than the Russians or nαzιs. We fought for the Jews in World War II on the same side as STALIN, for the love of Pete...

As you said in your post, the schemes of the bad guys are unbelievable in their complexity and deviousness. And as I said, all of them involve working on our pride. You have it too, it's not just me. Your pride is in America, on being an American, that is how you were raised. It keeps you from wanting to see the truth about this country.

You are wrong, Raoul, but I fear that only age and experience will show you what you overlooked.

I can't dance with the devil because I don't have what it takes. I used to try to separate the truth from the lies, but it drove me crazy until I gave up in defeat. I still think it is a good idea to keep an eye on the enemy, if you can do it. I can't. More power to those who can.
