  • Fairly obvious that would happen.  Russia were hardly going to let their only deep water access to the Med and Middle East slip away from them.

On the bright side.... perhaps no Papal canonisations if there is conflict in Europe.

  • I doubt the Poles will get involved. The US is weak and Russia has the EU by the balls with their pipeline. I doubt the Ukraine will get true independence. They've always been under the boot of Poland or Russia. Ukraine will either have another puppet government or will be swallowed up by Russia again since Ukraine just went bankrupt.

Get your rosary divine mercy chaplet ready ggreg, these canonizations are going through!

  • They had 22 years of independence and pissed it up against a wall allowing one kleptocracy to replace another and corruption to run rife.

That could never continue.  Sooner or later failed states are annexed and always have been.

They should have made hay while the sun shone.

  • Putin gets Russian parliament's approval for troops and use of force in Ukraine.

    Convergence?

Maybe go grocery shopping this weekend and fill the cars up.  Just in case.

  • If this crisis happened a few decades ago, I would have been distraught by these events happening in Catholic Ukraine.

Now, it is a sad reality that Russia is defending morality and the natural law.  The United States and Western Europe are fast becoming a modern Sodom and Gomorrah.

I think the Ukraine is better off allying themselves with the Russians and keeping the West and it's gαy marriage out.

That is something that I have always been saying. Russia is intresting. A sign of contradiction.

Through my upbringing I always thought of Russia as an Evil empire, as Ronald Reagan put it, but now they are the "good guys."  We, as faithful Catholics are increasingly finding ourselves to be outsiders in America.  Everything is changing here, and changing fast.

  • It is time to pop some popcorn and chuckle as Eastern Europe fights it out- just like they did to us in Korea and Vietnam. Don't worry, be happy.   :laugh1:

Yeah, thermal nuclear warfare might just put a damper on canonizations, good insight.

  • Khruschev transferred the Crimea in 1954. He contributed to this mess by annexing a predominantly Russian speaking population into the Ukraine.

  • Leaders of the Christian churches in Ukraine have joined in a plea to Russian leaders to “abandon the military and other… interference in the internal affairs of Ukraine.”

The statement by the Ukrainian Church leaders says that Russian military intervention especially is “a threat not only to our country but to the peace and security of the entire European continent.” The statement was All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and signed by the group’s leader, Metropolitan Onufry of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow patriarchate.

In a related development, Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has responded to a plea from Metropolitan Onufry by promising to “do everything possible to persuade those in power that they cannot allow destroying peaceful people in the Ukrainian land so dear to my heart.” The Russian primate said that although the Moscow patriarchate would not take sides in a political dispute, the Orthodox Church would do everything possible to prevent military conflict.

I wonder what the Russian patriarch will really do

  • The thing that scares me to death is we have amateurs in the White House playing with the big boys. Odumbo is repeating the same mistakes he made in Benghazi..skipping National Security meetings in favor of playing more golf. The thing that scares me more than anything, is the idiot in the White House might try something crazy after all the criticism he got for not acting in Benghazi and Syria. The only thing that might save us...is unless Obama is dumb enough to launch nuclear weapons at Russia, then Putin hopefully will just laugh at Obama and his threats.

Both Romney and Sarah Palin warned everyone about Russia and both predicted the invasion of Ukraine but Obama laughed at Romney and said, "The 1980's called and want their foreign policy back."

Of course if the Pope and Bishops would consecrate [strike]Russia[/strike] the world as Our Lady asked...maybe we would avoid all this...
