A man hurled a Molotov cocktail at one of Chicago's oldest ѕуηαgσgυєs early Monday -- an incident that's being investigated as a hate crime.

No one was hurt, and the device caused little damage to Temple Sholom of Chicago, 3480 N. Lake Shore Drive, police said.

A man driving a dark-color car was spotted fleeing the scene, police said.

The man made "derogatory comments" to a passerby, police said. But the comments "don't appear to be directed toward a particular religious group," Chicago Police spokesman John Mirabelli said.

He said the investigation was ongoing.

"The agencies that are working with us have labeled this a hate crime," said Temple Sholom's Senior Rabbi Aaron M. Petuchowski.

Petuchowski said the ѕуηαgσgυє has surveillance video. Asked whether it would help the investigation, Petuchowski said, "Time will tell."

Petuchowski said there's no evidence that the incident is connected to the ongoing Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.

"I couldn't rule it out, but it would seem to me that if there was an intent to convey that message, that there would be evidence of that message," he said.

The incident didn't affect scheduling at the ѕуηαgσgυє.

"The reality is this is a quiet week for our congregation, but our activities are continuing as planned," Petuchowski said.

Temple Sholom was founded in 1867, according to the organization's Web site. The ѕуηαgσgυє has been at its present location for about 80 years, Petuchowski said.

Thank you Vandeler. I should clarify, in the Chicago area, where I live-and you do not, it was  blasted on my radio ALL DAY long yesterday. And today, not one mention. That is what I found strange. Though of course it has been taken of the air with our insane Govenor picking a choice to replace Obama. And something else no one would be aware of, the  person who originally came out with Blago and just stood there glaring at the media was none other than Bobby Rush former Black Panther.
I was not insinuating conspiracy, I think some spend way to much time  trying to prove what they term conspriracy theorists wrong.
