  • A Catholic monk has been kidnapped from a monastery in Qaryatayn, Syria.

Father Jacques Mourad, the prior of the Mar Elias monastery, was seized by armed men representing an Islamic rebel group. The monastery is branch of a monastic community that was re-established by the Italian Jesuit missionary, Father Paolo Dall’Oglio, who was himself kidnapped in July 2013 and is still missing.

Father Mourad had recently expressed concern about jihadist activity in the vicinity of the monastery, which is located near the city of Homs, a possible target for the rebels. During the past week the monastery had welcomed many refugees from Palmyra, a city being overrun by the Islamic State.

Let us pray for him that he be faithful to the Catholic Faith

  • This is such a great day, Pentecost!  But I'm preoccupied with this news, and the accelerated self-outing of clerical pink mafia and supporters.

Begging God for mercy for Father Mourad.

  • An Iraqi Franciscan priest was seized by Islamic militants from his parish in the Syrian village of Yacoubieh on July 4, the Fides news service reports.

Shortly after Father Dhiya Azziz was taken away, his captors sent two men to his parish home to retrieve his medications—thereby giving an indication that the priest is alive and presumably healthy. But representatives of the Franciscan Custody in the Holy Land said that they had not heard from his captors and did not know the reason for his abduction.

Father Azziz had chosen to remain in Iraq, in a region that had come under the control of jihadist groups in the past, to provide pastoral care for the few remaining Christians in the area.

  • The Franciscan priest who was abducted in Syria on July 4 has been released unharmed, the AsiaNews service reports.

Father Dhiya Azziz had been seized by armed men from an Islamic militant group— although not from the group originally suspected of the kidnapping. The Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land noted that “there are a plethora of groups that operate with varied interests.”

The Syrian priest was apparently been kidnapped for ransom, but the Franciscan Custody said that there had been no contact with his captors prior to his release.

While expressing joy at the priest's release, the Franciscan Custody reminded the public that a number of Christian clerics-- including two Orthodox bishops and three Catholic priests-- remain hostages in Syria.

  • The Melkite Greek Catholic archbishop of Bosra and Hauran, Syria, has confirmed that Father Antoine Boutros, pastor of a parish in Shahba, has been kidnapped along with his driver.

"I can confirm that Father Antoine Boutros and his collaborator Said Al-Abdun, who have been missing since last Sunday [July 12], were actually stopped and seized by one of the several armed rebel groups that are in the area," Archbishop Nicolas Antiba told the Fides news agency. "Since their disappearance we have not received any news or demands from the kidnappers."

  • With all the millions and millions the Conciliar Church has paid out in fines levied due to the child molestion, the Conciliarists could have trained an A Team with a band of Catholic special forces soldiers to go and rescued kidnapped monks.  Instead, they paid the Jєωιѕн lawyers and the liars (many of the child molestation claims were likely lies) and they still don't have an A Team that could call.

  • A Catholic monk who was kidnapped in Syria in May has been released and is in “good health,” the AsiaNews service reports.

Father Jacques Mourad, the prior of the Mar Elias monastery, was seized by jihadist rebels, and early reports raised fears that he had been killed. He was set free on October 10 near the city of Homs

Father Mourad led a monastic community that had been re-established by the Italian Jesuit missionary, Father Paolo Dall’Oglio, who was himself kidnapped in July 2013 and is still missing. The monastery where he was seized was destroyed by Islamic forces in August.

  • Father Paolo dall'Oglio "was seen alive the past month of August, in Raqqa, Syria": said Rami Abdurrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory on Human Rights (Ondus) to newspaper Asharq al Awsat quoting two "Isis defectors".

The cleric went missing in Syria in 2013 and there has been no news about his fate since. A few days ago, the Chaldean patriarch Monsignor Louis Rapahel Sako said he was convinced "father dall'Oglio is still alive: he knows how to move, he knows Islam, he speaks Arabic and he knows how to relate with these people".

  • The head of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land reports that there has been no news about a priest who was kidnapped in Yakubiya, Father Dhiya Aziz had been captured by Islamic militants in July 2015, but escaped. He was seized once again on December 23. Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Franciscan Custos, said that he knows where Father Aziz has been taken-- to "an area of heavy fighting"-- but does not know who is responsible for the abduction. "We realize that someone took him," he said, "but we cannot say who did it or even if he is still alive."

  • Catholic priest who was abducted in Syria on December 23 has been released. Father Dhiya Azziz, who was seized as he returned to his parish in Yakubiya after visiting relatives in Turkey, was set free on Monday evening, January 4. In announcing his release, the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land declined to provide any details, citing “confidentiality reasons.” Earlier, Church spokesmen had said that Father Azziz was likely being held by an Islamic rebel group. His parish is situated in an area held by rebels. In fact Father Azziz had been kidnapped previously, in July, and held briefly by Islamic militants before he managed to escape.

Probably more like enough money for every diocese to have its own A Team.
