Since the Charlie Hebdo attacks in January, from which 16 people died, Paris-area ambulance crews and emergency personnel have taken part in regular exercises designed to test their readiness for possible attacks. One such exercise was held on Friday morning, the day of the latest terror attacks. In a twist of fate, the simulated emergency was a mass shooting, according to Dr. Mathieu Raux, emergency room chief at the Pitié-Salpetrière hospital in Paris.

but officials in Lake County said they want to make sure they’re prepared should it ever happen, so they were staging an emergency drill in Wadsworth on Friday.

There were no students inside Newport Elementary School on Friday. Instead, it was filled with volunteers and others taking part in the drill.

Several county departments were involved in the active shooter drill, with a total of more than 150 first responders, and more than 200 people helping out.

The scenario called for a person to play the role of a gunman inside the school, as police were called in to eliminate the threat.

On September 11, 2001, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) was involved in an ongoing operation which involved deploying fighter aircraft to northwestern North America. The US Military and NORAD had also planned to conduct several military exercises and a drill was being held by the National Reconnaissance Office, a Department of Defense agency. The operations, exercises and drills were all canceled following the September 11 attacks.
