  • There is something that has popped into my mind every once in a while and I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about it. We're obviously going through an unprecedented crisis. For those of you who believe the new rite Ordinations and especially Episcopal Consecrations are doubtful, because of the situation do you believe there's a chance that God would validate them for the common good of the faithful? I have thought about this possibility before, but on the other hand, would God validate ordinations or consecrations that lack proper form if they would directly lead to a (novus ordo) mass that would offend Him? Or might He validate the Orders for the sake of valid Confessions or "indult" TLMs where the Mass itself wouldn't offend Him? What do you guys think?

  • I think it would be uncharacteristic of Him to do so. God has absolutely no qualms in removing the means of sanctification for those who offend Him, especially when He chastises. Just look at how He responded to the Israelites when they turned to idolatry, he either had them killed outright (Exodus), exiled (the Prophets), or had the Temple destroyed (Babylonians and Romans).

It is not only just that He does so, but also merciful to those souls who may otherwise be committing a sacrilege by receiving Communion in a state of mortal sin, like many so-called Catholics today.
"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

Common good of the faithful didn't make Fr. Matthew Hood's sacraments valid when they required the priesthood.

"Ecclesia supplet" applies to governance/jurisdiction, not orders.

  • If the sacramental form can be dispensed, then Church law doesn’t matter, and ultimately, this means the moral law is also arbitrary.  This leads to chaos.

No, God is the ultimate Organizer, Planner and Rule-Maker.  He only gives Laws that are just, practical and able to be followed.  Same for His Church.
